PSA Phuentsholing Stadium
PSA Phuentsholing Stadium, also known as Phuentsholing Football Ground, is a 5,000-capacity football stadium located in Phuntsholing, Bhutan. The Bhutan Olympic Committee instigated a major sport venue construction project in 2016 which included the insertion of multiple additions to the stadium. Opened to the public in summer 2011, the field was previously prepared for paddy transplantations by the local footballers. It is the only recreational venue in Phuntsholing. For example, the annual inter-departmental football tournament start depends solely on the PSA Football Ground being ready for usage. Preparatory work on the stadium was needed as it was hosting an event to celebrate Bhutan's monarch Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Phuntsholing
Phuntsholing, also spelled as Phuentsholing ( dz, ཕུན་ཚོགས་གླིང་), is a border town in southern Bhutan and is the administrative seat of Chukha District. The town occupies parts of both Phuentsholing Gewog and Sampheling Gewog. Phuentsholing adjoins the Indian town of Jaigaon, and cross-border trade has resulted in a thriving local economy. The town had the headquarters of the Bank of Bhutan previously but shifted to Thimphu. In 2017, Phuentsholing had a population of 27,658. 2019 Bhutan Premier League
The 2019 Bhutan Premier League was the eighth season of unified league, rebranded as the Bhutan Premier League (previously the ''Bhutan National League''), the top national football competition in Bhutan, having replaced the A-Division in 2013. The Bhutan Football Federation implemented a new league structure for this season. The top division is named Bhutan Premier League (BPL) and has featured ten teams across the country. The second division is named Bhutan Super League (BSL) and has featured nine teams across the country, replacing Thimphu League as qualifying competition for the Premier League. The Bhutan Premier League, currently known as the Bank of Bhutan Premier League due to sponsorship reasons, is the men's highest division of professional football in Bhutan. It also provides Bhutan's entrant for continental competition, the AFC Cup. Format The Bhutan Premier League operates as the highest level of football in Bhutan. Competing teams in the league play each other twice on a home and away basis. Previously, when the A-Division was the country's top league, all matches were played at Changlimithang, the country's national stadium, making home and away distinctions essentially moot.
