Photosynthesis (board Game)
''Photosynthesis'' is a strategy board game designed by Hjalmar Hach and published by Blue Orange in 2017. Gameplay There are four differently-coloured player boards (blue, green, orange, and yellow) with similarly-coloured trees of three different sizes (small, medium, and large) and seed tokens. Each player takes a board of one colour, the tokens and trees of that colour, a light token used to track that player's light collection on their board, and a round marker. The player board has spaces for 4 seedlings, 4 small trees, 3 medium trees, and 2 large trees. A collective game board is placed centrally and paired with a crescent-shaped board that represents the sun, a number of coin-shaped tokens represent victory points, and a token represents the starting player. Setup is completed once each player places the light token on the zero marker of their game board and two trees on the outer edge of the central game board. The game then proceeds in rounds, each with two phases. ...

Strategy Board Game
A strategy game or strategic game is a game (e.g. a board game) in which the players' uncoerced, and often autonomous, decision-making skills have a high significance in determining the outcome. Almost all strategy games require internal decision tree-style thinking, and typically very high situational awareness. Strategy games are also seen as a descendant of war games, and define strategy in terms of the context of war, but this is more partial. A strategy game is a game that relies primarily on strategy, and when it comes to defining what strategy is, two factors need to be taken into account: its complexity and game-scale actions, such as each placement in a Total War series. The definition of a strategy game in its cultural context should be any game that belongs to a tradition that goes back to war games, contains more strategy than the average video game, contains certain gameplay conventions, and is represented by a particular community. Although war is dominant in strate ...

Victory Point
In tabletop games and video games, game mechanics are the rules or ludemes that govern and guide the player's actions, as well as the game's response to them. A rule is an instruction on how to play, a ludeme is an element of play like the L-shaped move of the knight in chess. A game's mechanics thus effectively specify how the game will work for the people who play it. There are no accepted definitions of game mechanics. Some competing definitions include the opinion that game mechanics are "systems of interactions between the player and the game", that they "are more than what the player may recognize, they are only those things that impact the play experience", and "In tabletop games and video games, 'game mechanics' are the rules and procedures that guide the player and the game response to the player's moves or actions". All games use mechanics; however, there are different theories as to their ultimate importance to the game. In general, the process and study of game desig ...

Expansion Set
An expansion pack, expansion set, supplement, or simply expansion is an addition to an existing role-playing game, tabletop game, video game or collectible card game. These add-ons usually add new game areas, weapons, objects, characters, or an extended storyline to an already-released game. While board game expansions are typically designed by the original creator, video game developers sometimes contract out development of the expansion pack to a third-party company, it may choose to develop the expansion itself, or it may do both. Board games and tabletop RPGs may have been marketing expansions since the 1970s, and video games have been releasing expansion packs since the 1980s, early examples being the '' Dragon Slayer'' games ''Xanadu Scenario II'' and '' Sorcerian''. Other terms for the concept are module and, in certain games' marketing, adventure. Characteristics The price of an expansion pack is usually much less than that of the original game. As expansion packs co ...
