Phonogram (comics)
''Phonogram'' is a comic book written by Kieron Gillen and drawn by Jamie McKelvie. It is published by American company Image Comics. Publication history The first volume, ''Rue Britannia'', began in August 2006 and stars David Kohl, a mage who uses the medium of Britpop music to interpret his magic. The second volume, ''The Singles Club'', consists of seven one-shots looking at young phonomancers and their experiences over one night at a dance club. Each issue consists of a 16-page main story, rounded-out with features and back-up stories. Gillen originally ruled out a third volume because sales were just too low: However, in February 2012 at the 2012 Image Expo, a third series of Phonogram was announced, entitled ''The Immaterial Girl''. Jamie McKelvie
Jamie McKelvie is a cartoonist and illustrator, known for his both work on books such as ''Phonogram'', ''Young Avengers'' and ''The Wicked + The Divine'', and his approach to comic character design. Career Since 2003, McKelvie has collaborated with Kieron Gillen on a number of works. This started with a comic strip for the official PlayStation Magazine UK, entitled ''Save Point'', which ran for at least three years. Their first comic book together was ''Phonogram'', a six-issue series in 2006, which was followed by two sequel series in 2008 and 2015 with Matt Wilson. The three worked together on a relaunch of ''Young Avengers'' for Marvel in 2013, and created the 45-issue series ''The Wicked + The Divine'' between 2014 and 2019. His first creator-owned series as both writer and artist, '' Suburban Glamour'', was published in 2008, with Guy Major and Matthew Wilson as colourists. English auxiliary verbs are a small set of English verbs, which include the English modal verbs and a few others. "Pull Shapes" is a single from The Pipettes and was released on 3 July 2006. It was available on CD, double 7" vinyl, and digital download from Memphis Industries. The expression "pull shapes" is a British English colloquialism that refers to the act of dancing. The Pipettes
The Pipettes were a British indie pop girl group formed in 2003 in Brighton by Robert "Monster Bobby" Barry. The group has released two albums, '' We Are The Pipettes'', and '' Earth vs. The Pipettes'' and released numerous singles to support it; the most successful being "Pull Shapes" which peaked at No. 26 in the UK Singles Chart. The group was active from 2003 to 2011. The group was originally composed of Julia Clarke-Lowes, Rose Elinor Dougall and Rebecca Stephens. At the time of their debut album Clarke-Lowes had been replaced by Gwenno Saunders. In 2008, Dougall and Stephens also left the group. Pulp (band)
Pulp are an English rock band formed in Sheffield in 1978. Their best-known line-up from their heyday (1992–1997) consisted of Jarvis Cocker (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Russell Senior (guitar, violin), Candida Doyle (keyboards), Nick Banks (drums, percussion), Steve Mackey (bass) and Mark Webber (guitar, keyboards). Throughout the 1980s the band struggled to find success, but gained prominence in the UK in the mid-1990s with the release of the albums '' His 'n' Hers'' in 1994 and particularly '' Different Class'' in 1995, which reached the number one spot in the UK Albums Chart. ''This Is Hardcore'' is the sixth album by English band Pulp. Released in March 1998, it came three years after their breakthrough album, '' Different Class'', and was eagerly anticipated. In 2013, ''NME'' ranked it at number 166 in its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Manic Street Preachers
Manic Street Preachers, also known simply as the Manics, are a Welsh Rock music, rock band formed in Blackwood, Caerphilly, Blackwood in 1986. The band consists of cousins James Dean Bradfield (lead vocals, lead guitar) and Sean Moore (musician), Sean Moore (drums, percussion, soundscapes), plus Nicky Wire (bass guitar, lyrics). They form a key part of the 1990s Welsh Cool Cymru cultural movement. The Holy Bible (album)
''The Holy Bible'' is the third studio album by Welsh alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers. It was released on 29 August 1994 by record label Epic. While the album was being written and recorded, lyricist and rhythm guitarist Richey Edwards was struggling with severe depression, alcohol abuse, self-harm and anorexia nervosa, and its contents are considered by many sources to reflect his mental state. The songs focus on themes relating to politics and human suffering. ''The Holy Bible'' was the band's last album released before Edwards' disappearance on 1 February 1995. Suede (also known in the US as The London Suede) are an English rock band formed in London in 1989 by singer Brett Anderson, guitarist Justine Frischmann, and bass player Mat Osman. Drawing inspiration from glam rock and post-punk, Suede were dubbed "The Best New Band in Britain" by ''Melody Maker'' in 1992, and attracted much attention from the British music press. It was recorded in London at Master Rock studios late 1992 and early 1993 and was produced by Ed Buller. Blur (band)
Blur are an English rock band formed in London in 1988. The band consists of singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree. Their debut album, ''Leisure'' (1991), incorporated the sounds of Madchester and shoegazing. ''Modern Life Is Rubbish'' is the second album by English alternative rock band Blur, released in May 1993. Although their debut album ''Leisure'' (1991) had been commercially successful, Blur faced a severe media backlash soon after its release, and fell out of public favour. After the group returned from an unsuccessful tour of the United States, poorly received live performances and the rising popularity of rival band Suede further diminished Blur's status in the UK. Under threat of being dropped by Food Records, for their next album Blur underwent an image makeover championed by frontman Damon Albarn.
