Phobay Kutu-Akoi
Phobay Kutu-Akoi (born 3 December 1987 in Monrovia, Liberia) is a Liberian athlete who competes in sprinting events. She represented her country in the 100 metres at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She was the flag bearer of Liberia during the opening ceremony. She also competed at the 2011 Outdoor World Championships in Daegu, South Korea and at the 2016 Indoor World Championships in Portland, Oregon. Emmanuel Matadi
Emmanuel Matadi (born 15 April 1991) is a Liberian sprinter. Matadi has represented Liberia in the 2016 Summer Olympics, the 2017 World Athletics Championships, and the 2020 Summer Olympics. Matadi attended the University of Louisville before transferring to Minnesota State University, Mankato. At MNSU, Matadi won national titles in the 100m and 200m. He also holds Liberia's national records in the 60m and 100m. Internationally, Matadi won bronze in the 200 meters at the 2016 African Championships and made his Olympic debut while competing for Liberia at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 100m and 200m. He was the flag bearer for Liberia in the Parade of Nations. In the 2017 World Championships, Matadi was one of three Africans to advance to the semifinals of the 100m in London. 60 Metres
60 metres, or 60-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field. It is a championship event for indoor championships, normally dominated by the best outdoor 100 metres runners. At outdoor venues it is a rare distance, at least for senior athletes. The format of the event is similar to other sprint distances. The sprinters follow three initial instructions: 'ready', instructing them to take up position in the starting blocks; 'set', instructing them to adopt a more efficient starting posture, which also isometrically preloads their muscles. This will enable them to start faster. The final instruction is the firing of the starter's pistol. Upon hearing this the sprinters stride forwards from the blocks. The 60 metres was an Olympic event in the 1900 and 1904 Summer Games but was removed from the schedule thereafter. The women's 60 metres at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on March 19, 2016. Coming into these championships, world 200 champion Dafne Schippers and Barbara Pierre shared the fastest time in the world at 7.00. During the heats both ran 7.02, but in the semis, Schippers' slow start made her vulnerable as Elaine Thompson beat her to the line. In the final, the start proved to be important, Pierre got out well with Thompson, Michelle-Lee Ahye and Asha Philip. The number 4 sprinter in the season Marie Josée Ta Lou was literally left in the blocks, yet 5 steps into the race, she had drawn even with Schippers. After spotting the leaders a step, Schippers got into her superior top end speed and ran down everybody, except Pierre, Thompson losing silver in the last step. The 16th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics were held between March 17 and 20, 2016 in Portland, Oregon, United States. The event did not feature Russia. Following a WADA investigation into widespread and institutional doping practices in Russian athletics, the IAAF provisionally suspended Russia's membership of the organisation in November 2015, effectively excluding the country both from hosting events and entering competitions. Russia's effective exclusion from the tournament was confirmed in November 2015 when it was announced by IAAF that a decision over lifting its provisional suspension from international athletics would not be taken until the end of March at the earliest. The women's 100 metres competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom was held at the Olympic Stadium on 3–4 August. In the preliminary round, Toea Wisil was the most impressive, winning with a relaxed 11.60 into a -1.6 mps wind, while Noor Hussain Al-Malki's Olympic experience lasted just the first steps out of the blocks before she pulled up.
