Academic Journal
An academic journal or scholarly journal is a periodical publication in which scholarship relating to a particular academic discipline is published. Academic journals serve as permanent and transparent forums for the presentation, scrutiny, and discussion of research. They nearly-universally require peer-review or other scrutiny from contemporaries competent and established in their respective fields. Content typically takes the form of articles presenting original research, review articles, or book reviews. The purpose of an academic journal, according to Henry Oldenburg (the first editor of ''Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society''), is to give researchers a venue to "impart their knowledge to one another, and contribute what they can to the Grand design of improving natural knowledge, and perfecting all Philosophical Arts, and Sciences." British Journal For The History Of Philosophy
The ''British Journal for the History of Philosophy'' (BJHP) is a bimonthly peer-reviewed academic journal of the British Society for the History of Philosophy, publishing articles on the history of philosophy. It is widely regarded as one of the leading international journals in the area. It has played a central role in broadening the philosophical canon to include marginalised figures and traditions. From 2013-2020 the editor-in-chief was Michael A. Beaney, currently Regius Professor of Logic at the University of Aberdeen. From 2021 the editors-in-chief are Alix Cohen (Edinburgh) and Sacha Golob (King's College London). ''Between the Species: A Journal for the Study of Philosophy and Animals'' (formerly ''Between the Species: A Journal of Ethics'' and ''Between the Species: An Online Journal for the Study of Philosophy and Animals'', also known as ''BTS'') is a peer reviewed academic journal devoted to philosophical examinations of human relationships with other animals. Berkeley Studies
''Berkeley Studies'' (''Berkeley Newsletter'' until December 2007) is an annual on-line academic journal established in 1977. It publishes scholarly articles on anything related to George Berkeley. The journal also gives news of the last events in Berkeley scholarship: book reviews, information about coming pertinent conferences, and abstracts from reports delivered at such conferences. Assembling bibliography on Berkeley constitutes an essential part of the editors' work. The first issue of the journal was published and distributed by the Philosophy Department at Trinity College, Dublin. When Hampden-Sydney College hosted the journal's web site in 2005, issues started to be published in the new format of an online journal. ''Augustinian Studies'' is a peer-reviewed academic journal devoted to the study of Augustine of Hippo. Its primary focus is the study of Augustine himself, as viewed from various theological, philosophical, and historical perspectives. Articles concerned more broadly with the study of Augustine, such as studies of other persons, groups, or issues in Augustine's time, may also be included. The journal also publishes the annual Saint Augustine Lecture, given each Fall at Villanova University.
