Philly Larkin
Philip "Philly" Larkin (born 26 July 1973) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club James Stephens and was a member of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team from 1996 until 2003. Biography Born in the famous 'village' area of Kilkenny, Larkin was a member of the famous Larkin hurling dynasty. His father Phil, known as 'Fan' Larkin, won five All-Ireland medals with Kilkenny in a career that spanned seventeen seasons. Larkin's grandfather, Paddy, and his grand-uncle, Mick Mick is a masculine given name, usually a short form (hypocorism) of Michael. James Stephens is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1887 and has enjoyed equal success in both hurling and Gaelic football. History James Stephens was founded in 1887 as a hurling club. The club is named after James Stephens, founding member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood and took part in its first championship in 1888. The club was founded in the area of Patrick Street in Kilkenny city, an area locally known as 'the Village.' The James Stephens colours of red and green were adopted as a result of the purchase of a set of jerseys from Erin's Own at a price of 30 shillings. Brian Horgan
Brian Horgan (born 1976) is an Irish hurler who played as a right wing-back for the Tipperary senior hurling team. Born in Dundrum, County Tipperary, Horgan first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor teams as a dual player, before later joining the under-21 hurling team. He joined the senior team for the 1998 championship. Horgan went on to play a bit part for Tipperary over the next few years, and won one National Hurling League medal. At club level Horgan won numerous divisional medals in both hurling and Gaelic football with Knockavilla–Donaskeigh Kickhams. Throughout his career Horgan made just four championship appearances. His inter-county career came to an end following the conclusion of the 2003 championship. In retirement from playing, Horgan became involved in team management and coaching. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1994 was the 108th staging of Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. Offaly won the championship, beating Limerick 3-16 to 2-13 in a sensational final at Croke Park, Dublin. Pre-championship Prior to the opening of the championship Kilkenny were installed as the favourites to retain the All-Ireland title for a third consecutive year. The last time they achieved this was in 1913, however, no final took place that year and Kilkenny were awarded the title as Limerick refused to play. The GAA Hurling Under-20 All-Ireland Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bord Gáis Energy GAA Hurling Under-20 All-Ireland Championship) is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition for male players between the ages of 17 and 20 in Ireland. The championship was contested as the All-Ireland Under-21 Championship between 1964 and 2018 before changing to an under-20 age category from 2019.
