Phillip Adams (American Football)
Phillip Matthew Adams (July 20, 1988 – April 8, 2021) was an American football cornerback. He played college football for the South Carolina State Bulldogs and was drafted in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He also played for the New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets, and Atlanta Falcons. On April 8, 2021, suffering from the brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy, Adams shot and killed himself following a standoff with police in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was identified by investigators as the gunman responsible for killing six people the day before. Early life Adams was born on July 20, 1988, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Phillip Maxwell Adams (born 29 July 1945) is an Australian sport shooter. Adams has competed at four consecutive Olympic Games, between 1984 and 1996, and six consecutive Commonwealth Games between 1982 and 2002. He shares the record for the most medals won in Commonwealth Games with a total of eighteen medals (seven golds, nine silver, and two bronze) with English shooter Mick Gault. He has competed in the air, free, centre-fire and standard pistol, winning the Oceanian Championships in all four events. In 1992 he won the 10m air pistol event at the Benito Juarez World Cup championships in Mexico City. In 1991, after winning his sixth gold medal at Commonwealth Games, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his services to the sport of pistol shooting. Philippe Adams (born 19 November 1969 in Mouscron, Belgium) is a racing driver. Career Early career Adams first began in motorsport at the age of twelve, racing karts, before beginning in car racing in 1984. In 1992, Adams competed in the British Formula 3 Championship, finishing second overall in the season. Adams went on to the British Formula Two Series for 1993, winning the championship. Formula One (1994) Adams and his backers agreed with Team Lotus to find $500,000 to earn a pay-drive with them for two rounds of the 1994 Formula One season. Part of the funding for this came from an insurance policy taken out against his Belgian Procar race at Spa alongside the F1 race, which he won. He retired from the Belgian round, but managed to finish 16th in the Portuguese round. In between these two races, regular driver Alessandro Zanardi qualified a strong 13th for his home race. Sir Philip George Doyne Adams KCMG (17 December 1915 – 14 October 2001) was a British career diplomat. He was born in Wellington, New Zealand and was educated at Lancing College, Sussex, before going on to read Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Christ Church, Oxford. He joined the Levant Consular Service in 1938 and was posted as a probationary Vice-Consul to Beirut. During the Second World War he was an Intelligence Officer in the Australian Army. He took part in the invasion of Lebanon and Syria in 1941; however he was quickly recalled by the Foreign Office and spent the remaining years of the war in Cairo. In 1954 he was made Chargé d'Affaires to Sudan in Khartoum and established the first British Embassy after Sudanese independence.
