Philippines Davis Cup Team
The Philippines men's national tennis team represents the Philippines in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Philippine Tennis Association. The Philippines currently compete in the Asia/Oceania Zone of Group IV. They won the Eastern Zone in 1957, 1958, 1960, and 1964, and reached the World Group Play-off in 1991. In April 2007, businessman and sportsman Jean Henri Lhuillier, president and chief executive officer of Cebuana Lhuillier was appointed team manager of the Philippines' Davis Cup team. History The Philippines was set to compete at the Davis Cup in 1921 but withdrew from the tournament. The country was supposed to be represented by brothers, Francisco and Guillermo Aragon in that year. The 1926 International Lawn Tennis Challenge was the 21st edition of what is now known as the Davis Cup. 19 teams would enter the Europe Zone, while 5 would enter the America Zone. France defeated Japan in the Inter-Zonal play-off, but would fall to the United States in a rematch of 1925's Challenge Round. 1921 Davis Cup
The 1921 International Lawn Tennis Challenge was the 16th edition of what is now known as the Davis Cup. In the playoff finals, newcomers Japan surprised Australasia, 4-1, but would fall to defending champions the United States in the Challenge Round. The final was played at the West Side Tennis Club in New York City, United States on 2–5 September. Teams The tournament saw a boom in entries, with a record 12 teams entering to challenge for the cup. 2020–21 Davis Cup
The 2020–21 Davis Cup was the 109th edition of the Davis Cup, a tournament between national teams in men's tennis. It was sponsored by Rakuten. For this edition, the format of the cup was changed. The new format saw the creation of a Davis Cup World Group I and World Group II which was played on a worldwide basis and replaced the regional Group I and Group II. As a result, the Davis Cup nations ranking was no longer used to determine which group a nation was played in. Previous the 2019, and the 2021 finals host Spain were the defending champions. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on 26 June 2020 the ITF announced that the 2020 finals would take place from 22 until 28 November 2021.
