Philippines At The 2014 Asian Beach Games
Philippines participated in the 2014 Asian Beach Games in Phuket (city), Phuket, Thailand from 14 to 23 November 2014. Maybelline Masuda clinched Philippines' first Asian Beach Games Gold Medal in Women's –50 kg Ju-jitsu. Annie Ramirez immediately followed with another gold copping the Women's –60 kg Ju-jitsu. Philippines ended their campaign with 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 7 bronze medals and a total of 12 medals, finishing fourteenth on the medal table. The Philippines Team achieved its best finish since the start of the Beach Games. The Philippine Olympic Committee Inc. (POC) is the National Olympic Committee of the Philippines. The POC is a private, non-governmental organization composed of and serve as the mother organization of all National Sports Associations (NSAs) in the Philippines. John Leerams Chicano (born October 6, 1991), popularly known as ''Rambo'' in the triathlon community, is a professional Filipino triathlete. He won a gold medal at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games men's triathlon at Subic Bay Boardwalk in Zambales. Career Prior to becoming a triathlete, Chicano was a cyclist competing in junior competitions. In 2007, he had to work in a bicycle shop so he could earn a living to support his child. The owner of the shop waCoach Melvin Fausto a coach for the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP). Fausto saw potential in Chicano and trained him to become a bicycle mechanic and later taught him on how to become a triathlete. Prior to training under Fausto, Chicano had no experience in how to swim and had to be taught in swimming for three months.
