Philip Thomas (cricketer)
Philip Anthony Thomas (born 17 August 1978) is an English cricketer. Thomas is a right-handed batsman who bowls slow left-arm orthodox. He was born in Liverpool, Lancashire. Thomas made his debut for Cheshire in the 2000 MCCA Knockout Trophy against the Derbyshire Cricket Board. He played a further Knockout Trophy match in 2000, against the Nottinghamshire Cricket Board. In that same season he played his only Minor Counties Championship match against Wales Minor Counties. The following season, he made his only List A appearance against Cornwall in the 2nd round of the 2002 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy which was played in 2001. In this match he wasn't required to bat, but with the ball he did take 2 wickets for the cost of 48 runs. His wickets were those of James Hands and Benjamin Price. Wales National County Cricket Club is one of twenty National county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents all of the historic counties of Wales except Glamorgan and is currently the only non-English member of the National Counties Cricket Championship. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The 2002 Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy was an English limited overs county cricket tournament which was held between 29 August 2001 and 31 August 2002. 2001 English Cricket Season
The 2001 English cricket season was the 102nd in which the County Championship had been an official competition. Yorkshire won the County Championship for the first time since 1968. In limited overs cricket, a change of sponsor meant that the NatWest Trophy became the C&G Trophy. The Second XI Trophy was inaugurated as a limited overs knockout competition. Australia again won the Ashes, this time largely due to some fine performances by Adam Gilchrist. It was the 70th test series between the two sides with Australia winning 4-1. Minor Counties Championship
The NCCA 3 Day Championship (previously the Minor Counties Cricket Championship) is a season-long competition in England and Wales that is contested by the members of the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA), the so-called national counties that do not have first-class status. History The competition began in 1895, with the Worcestershire honorary secretary Paul Foley being influential in its creation. Apart from the two World War periods, it has been contested annually ever since. From 2014 to 2019 the tournament was known as the Unicorns Championship.
