Philip Somerville
Philip Douglas Frank Somerville (12 February 1930 – 14 September 2014) was an English milliner – partly trained in Auckland – who had a salon in London. He is widely known for hats worn by the Queen – from whom he held a Royal Warrant – and Diana, Princess of Wales. He also created headgear worn by two James Bond villainesses. His obituary in ''The Sunday Times'' said of his influence on Princess Diana's fashion sense: "he helped to mould her style – and with it the country's taste in hats". Early life and career The son of a shoe repairer, Philip Somerville was born in the Hampshire city of Winchester and educated at St Thomas's School. Rachel Trevor-Morgan is a British milliner best known for the hats she creates for the Queen. In 2014, she was granted a Royal Warrant. Early life and career The hat designer Rachel Trevor-Morgan was born in Stourbridge, West Midlands. Her father was a vicar and, as a child, she loved seeing her mother wear hats to church. She was a pupil at The Alice Ottley School in Worcester and, aged 19, moved to London intent on learning how to be a milliner. She wrote to British milliner Graham Smith – hatmaker to Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Collins and Princess Diana among others – asking if she could see how he worked. He interviewed Trevor-Morgan and offered her an apprenticeship. Elektra Vavra King is Bond girl, a character in the James Bond film ''The World Is Not Enough'', played by actress Sophie Marceau.
