Philip Langmead
Philip Langmead (c. 1739 - 8 August 1816) was Member of Parliament for Plymouth from 1802 to February 1806. He married Elizabeth Clark in c. 1763. His daughter Elizabeth was the first wife of George Byng, 6th Viscount Torrington. Plymouth (UK Parliament Constituency)
Plymouth was a parliamentary borough in Devon, which elected two members of parliament (MPs) to the British House of Commons, House of Commons in 1298 and again from 1442 until 1918, when the borough was merged with the neighbouring Devonport (UK Parliament constituency), Devonport and the combined area divided into three single-member constituencies. History In the Unreformed Parliament (to 1832) Plymouth first sent MPs to the Parliament of 1298, but after that the right lapsed until being restored in 1442, after which it returned two members to each parliament. The borough originally consisted of the parish of Plymouth in Devon; in 1641, the parish was divided into two, St Charles and St Andrew, and both remained in the borough. The History Of Parliament
The History of Parliament is a project to write a complete history of the United Kingdom Parliament and its predecessors, the Parliament of Great Britain and the Parliament of England. The history will principally consist of a prosopography, in which the history of an institution is told through the individual biographies of its members. After various amateur efforts the project was formally launched in 1940 and since 1951 has been funded by the Treasury. As of 2019, the volumes covering the House of Commons for the periods 1386–1421, 1509–1629, and 1660–1832 have been completed and published (in 41 separate volumes containing over 20 million words); and the first five volumes covering the House of Lords from 1660-1715 have been published, with further work on the Commons and the Lords ongoing. George Byng, 6th Viscount Torrington
Vice-Admiral George Byng, 6th Viscount Torrington (5 January 1768–18 June 1831), Royal Navy, commanded , the ship which returned King William I to the Netherlands from his exile in London,J.A. van Zelm van Eldik in "Moed en Deugd" page 212 003 for which service he was appointed by the king to the Military Order of William. Early life George Byng was born the eldest son of Colonel the Honourable John Byng and his wife Bridget, the daughter of Commodore Arthur Forrest, in London on 5 January 1768. He was initially educated at Greenwich but was then moved to a seminary at Paddington where he completed his education in preparation for joining the Royal Navy, as had been planned for him from an early age. Naval career Byng joined the Royal Navy on 23 February 1778, embarking on the 74-gun ship of the line HMS ''Thunderer'' as a midshipman.
