Philip Johnston of the New Jersey militia died in battle at the head of his regiment at the Battle of Long Island on 27 August 1776. He was a graduate of Princeton University. He was the subject of a debate in the United States Senate on 26 December 1836 concerning compensating his surviving heirs and children: Maria Scudder, Martha A. Phillip Johnston (born January 22, 1955) is an American avant-garde saxophonist. He came to prominence in the 1980s as co-founder of The Microscopic Septet and went on to write extensively for films, particularly new scores for classic silent films from the early 20th Century. Biography Phillip Johnston was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 22, 1955, and raised in the New York City area. During the 1970s he met and formed relationships with some of his earliest musical associates (John Zorn, Joel Forrester, David Hofstra, Eugene Chadbourne), and moved often between San Francisco and New York City. In 1980 he settled in New York, and soon formed his first ongoing music groups, The Public Servants (with vocalist Shelley Hirsch) and The Microscopic Septet (with pianist Joel Forrester). Philip Johnston (estate Agent)
Philip Johnston (1966 - 2017) was an estate agent from Belfast, Northern Ireland. In April 2005 Johnston was arrested on suspicion of money laundering. Former Ulster Defence Association leader Jim Gray had been arrested three days earlier, along with Gray's then girlfriend Sharon Moss The three were suspected to be using Johnston's property business to launder money from Gray's criminal activities. Central to the allegations was a luxury property Gray was renting from Johnston at Cherry Tree Walk in Cherryvalley. Johnston also purchased The Avenue One bar on the Newtownards Road from Gray for redevelopment. In October 2005 Gray was shot dead at his father's home in east Belfast, after being expelled from the UDA. In August 2006 all charges against Johnston were dropped without explanation from the Public Prosecution Service for Northern Ireland. Philip Mainwaring Johnston (1865–1936), also known as PM Johnston, was a British architect and architectural historian. Education Philip attended King's College School, London. He studied drawing and painting under Professor Delamotte at King’s College, London. Professor Delamotte was a photographer/illustrator who became Professor of Drawing and Fine Art at King’s College. Whilst studying at King's College, he undertook many sketching trips in England and on the Continent - an important part of every architect's education at that time. Career Articled to John Belcher, Johnston was notable for his sensitive conservation and restoration work on many churches in the south-east of England and other historic buildings.
