Philip Hays
Philip Harrison "Phil" Hays (1931–2005) was an American illustrator. Born in Sherman, Texas on March 14, 1931, Hays grew up in Louisiana, served in the Air Force and in 1952 enrolled at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. After graduating in 1955, Hays moved to New York. Almost overnight he became a top illustrator creating romantic illustrations for magazines like ''Seventeen'', ''Cosmopolitan'', ''Redbook'' and ''McCalls''. In 1957 Silas Rhodes invited him to teach at the young School of Visual Arts, and Hays did, soon becoming head of the illustration program. While staying in New York, his circle of friends included movie actors Ben Piazza and Rita Gam, artist Andy Warhol and restaurateur Johnny Nicholson. Art Center College Of Design
Art Center College of Design (stylized as ArtCenter College of Design) is a private art college in Pasadena, California. History ArtCenter College of Design was founded in 1930 in downtown Los Angeles as the Art Center School. In 1935, Fred R. Archer founded the photography department, and Ansel Adams was a guest instructor in the late 1930s. During and after World War II, ArtCenter ran a technical illustration program in conjunction with the California Institute of Technology. In 1947, the post-war boom in students caused the school to expand to a larger location in the building of the former Cumnock School for Girls in the Hancock Park neighborhood, while still maintaining a presence at its original downtown location. The school began granting Bachelor's and Master's degrees in arts in 1949, and was fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 1955. Ben Piazza
Ben Piazza (July 30, 1933 – September 7, 1991) was an American actor. Life and career Piazza made his film debut in Sidney J. Furie's Canadian film ''A Dangerous Age'' (1959) followed by his Hollywood debut in '' The Hanging Tree'' (1959). Though he signed contracts with Warner Bros. and Gary Cooper's production companies for five years, he did not make another film until ''No Exit'' (1962). A prolific television and film character actor, Piazza is perhaps most widely recognized as the wealthy restaurant patron in John Landis' 1980 comedy hit ''The Blues Brothers'' from whom Jake (John Belushi) offers to purchase his wife and daughter. Rita Gam
Rita Gam (born Rita Eleanore MacKay, April 2, 1927March 22, 2016) was an American film and television actress and documentary filmmaker. She won the Silver Bear for Best Actress. Background Gam was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Belle (née Fately), who was born in Romania, and Milton A. MacKay, who was born in France to parents from Romania. Her father died in New York in 1931 and her mother remarried. Gam took the surname of her stepfather, Benjamin J. Gam. Career Gam was a model before she ventured into acting. The Art Directors Club of New York is an organization for art directors in New York City. It was founded in 1920, and has grown as an industry group, promoting art directors' work through exhibitions and awards, including the annual DESI award for design excellence.
