Philip Hatkin
Philip Hatkin was a Latvia-born cinematographer who worked in Hollywood during the early silent era. He shot dozens of films between 1915 and 1921. He frequently collaborated with directors like George Archainbaud and Harley Knoles. Biography Philip was born in Riga, Latvia (at that time part of the Russian Empire), to Hessel Hatkin and Sadie Sachs. He came to the United States with his family around 1893, according to census records. Before he began working as a cinematographer at World Film Corporation, he was a photographer for over a decade. He was a member of the Cinema Camera Club in New York City. In 1922, he returned to New York City after spending two years in Europe for work. He died in the Bronx a year later. He and his wife, Rebecca Levine, had a daughter named Goldie. George Archainbaud
George Archainbaud (May 7, 1890 – February 20, 1959) was a French-American film and television director. Biography In the beginning of his career he worked on stage as an actor and manager. He came to the United States in January 1914, and started his film career as an assistant director to Emile Chautard at the World Film Company in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In 1917 he made his own directorial debut '' As Man Made Her''. During the next three and a half decades he directed over one hundred films. After the beginning of the 1950s he moved to television. While working at RKO Radio Pictures in the beginning of the 1930s, he showed some artistic and skillful eye with many of his films. The finest examples include ''Thirteen Women'' (1932), a story of ethnic discrimination and revenge, with Myrna Loy as a half-caste Hindu; ''The Lost Squadron'' (1932), a memorable thriller about Hollywood stunt flyers, who risk their lives under the direction of monstrous Erich von Stroheim; ''Peng ...

The Yellow Passport
''The Yellow Passport'' is a lost 1916 silent film drama produced and distributed by the World Film Company. Based on Michael Morton's 1914 Broadway play of the same title, it was directed by Edwin August and starred Clara Kimball Young. On the stage the lead characters were played by Florence Reed and John Barrymore. Morton's story was filmed several times in the silent era and made as ''The Yellow Ticket'' in 1931 with Lionel Barrymore and Elissa Landi. A rerelease title for this film was ''The Badge of Shame''. Plot Sonia Sokoloff, a young Jewish girl in the Russian Empire, is forced to pretend to be a prostitute to obtain a passport (a "yellow ticket") in order to visit her father, whom she believes to be ill.
