Philip F. Roach
Philip F. Roach was a Commodore (United States), commodore in the United States Coast Guard. Biography Roach was born on February 11, 1881, in Sedalia, Colorado. He married Helen Bryan in 1939. Career Roach graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy, Revenue Cutter Service School of Instruction in 1907. Afterwards, he was stationed in Boston, Massachusetts and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Later, he was assigned to USS Apache (1891), USRC ''Apache'', USS McCulloch (1897), USRC ''McCulloch'', USRC Seminole, USRC ''Seminole'' and USRC Yamacraw (1909), USRC ''Yamacraw''. In 1917, he became executive officer of USCGC Tampa (1912), USRC ''Tampa''. During World War I, Roach commanded USRC Manning (1898), USCGC ''Manning'' and USS Lydonia (SP-700), USS ''Lydonia''. Commodore (United States)
Commodore was an early title and later a rank in the United States Navy, United States Coast Guard and the Confederate States Navy, and also has been a rank in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Officer Corps (NOAA Corps) and its ancestor organizations. For over two centuries, the designation has been given varying levels of authority and formality. USCGC ''Seneca'', or before 1915 USRC ''Seneca'', was a United States Coast Guard cutter built and commissioned as a "derelict destroyer" with the specific mission of locating and then destroying abandoned shipwrecks that were still afloat and were a menace to navigation. USCGC ''Duane'' (WPG-33/WAGC-6/WHEC-33) (earlier known as the USCGC ''William J. Duane'') was a cutter in the United States Coast Guard. Her keel was laid on May 1, 1935 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was launched on June 3, 1936 as a search and rescue and law enforcement vessel. The Treasury-class Coast Guard cutters (sometimes referred to as the "Secretary" or 327-foot class) were all named for former Secretaries of the Treasury Department. USCGC ''Modoc'' (WPG-46) was a 240-foot ''Tampa''-class United States Coast Guard cutter designed for multi-mission roles.
