Philip C. Jimeno
Philip C. Jimeno (born February 28, 1947, in Fairmont, West Virginia) is an American politician and was a long-serving member of the Maryland State Legislature as a Democrat. Early life and education He grew up in West Virginia and attended Fairmont State College. He was married in 1969, and he and his wife Ramona moved to Brooklyn Park, Maryland in 1970. He worked as a probation and parole officer in Baltimore and was involved in the local improvement association, the Roland Terrace Democratic Club and became president of the Greater Brooklyn Park Council. Fairmont is a city in and county seat of Marion County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 18,313 at the 2020 census. It is the principal city of the Fairmont Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Marion County, and is a principal city of the larger Morgantown–Fairmont Combined Statistical Area. History Beginnings In the eighteenth century, the earliest development of Fairmont consisted of subsistence farming settlements. In 1789, Boaz Fleming, a Revolutionary War veteran, migrated to western Virginia and purchased a 254-acre farm from Jonathan Bozarth. In 1808, Fleming made his annual trek to Clarksburg to pay his brother's Harrison County taxes. While in Clarksburg, Fleming attended a social gathering that included his cousin Dolley Madison, wife of President James Madison. Bryan Warner Simonaire (born September 6, 1963) is an American politician who serves as a Maryland State Senator representing District 31, which encompasses much of northern Anne Arundel County's Baltimore suburbs. Background Bryan Simonaire was first elected to the Maryland State Senate in 2006 to represent District 31, which is a part of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He became the first Republican to ever win the State Senate seat in District 31. In his most recent victory in 2014, he won with over 72% of the vote and a margin exceeding 17,000 votes. In the 2010 election, Bryan Simonaire won the 2010 State Senate race by over 10,000 votes. Comparatively, he only won by just over 600 votes in his first election in 2006. The Maryland Senate, sometimes referred to as the Maryland State Senate, is the upper house of the General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Maryland. Composed of 47 senators elected from an equal number of constituent single-member districts, the Senate is responsible, along with the Maryland House of Delegates, for passage of laws in Maryland, and for confirming executive appointments made by the Governor of Maryland. It evolved from the upper house of the colonial assembly created in 1650 when Maryland was a proprietary colony controlled by Cecilius Calvert.
