Philip Bracken Fleming
Philip Bracken Fleming (October 15, 1887 – October 6, 1955) was a United States Army general and United States Ambassador to Costa Rica. Biography The Iowa-born Fleming was son of John Joseph and Mary Bracken Fleming. From 1905 to 1907 he attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, University of Wisconsin. Fleming was cadet at the United States Military Academy from June 15, 1907, until June 13, 1911, when he graduated first in his class. Many of his classmates, such as Charles P. Hall, William H. H. Joseph Cowles Mehaffey (November 20, 1889 – February 18, 1963) was a major general in the United States Army. As a member of the Army Corps of Engineers, he was the consulting engineer on the Arlington Memorial Bridge in Washington, D.C.; helped renovate the White House; and served as a supervising engineer for the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression. He was assigned in 1941 as maintenance engineer of the Panama Canal, and was Governor of the Panama Canal Zone from 1944 to 1948. Frederick Gilbreath (21 February 1888 – 28 February 1969) was a general officer in the United States Army who commanded the San Francisco Port of Embarkation and the South Pacific Base Command during World War II. Early life Frederick Gilbreath was born on 21 February 1888 on a farm near Dayton, Washington, Dayton in what was then the Washington Territory. He was the youngest of thirteen children of Samuel Love Gilbreath and his wife Margaret Fanning. His parents had traversed the Oregon Trail with their families in wagon trains in 1852, and had moved to the Washington Territory after their marriage in 1859. Gilbreath grew up on the family farm.
