Phil Edwards (boxer)
Philip Cilia (born 12 May 1936) was a Welsh Middleweight boxer who fought under the name Phil Edwards. Edwards was Wales middleweight champion from 1957 until his retirement in 1962. One of the best British fighters at his weight, Edwards was unfortunate to box during the reign of Terry Downes, and he twice failed in a challenge for the British title against Downes. Boxing career Edwards was born in Cardiff, Wales in 1936 as Philip Cilia to a Maltese father and Welsh mother.Jones (2009), pp.48–50 He was orphaned at the age of 11, but was looked after by an older brother. Edwards showed promise as a young amateur boxer, winning many competitions and in 1951 he was awarded a watch by Field Marshal Montgomery after being named as best boxer at the annual British Schools Championship. Crosskeys ( cy, Pont-y-cymer) is a village, community and an electoral ward in Caerphilly county borough in Wales. John McCormack (boxer)
John McCormack (9 January 1935 – 23 May 2014) was a Scottish boxer. Life and career Known as "Cowboy", McCormack started boxing in 1950 at the age of fifteen. He won the 1956 Amateur Boxing Association British light-middleweight title, when boxing out of the NB Loco ABC. He also held the Scottish title as an amateur. He earned the bronze medal in the light middleweight division (– 71 kg) at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. McCormack compiled an amateur record of 103-6 (51 knockouts). McCormack died on 23 May 2014 after suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Dick Tiger (born Richard Ihetu; August 14, 1929 – December 14, 1971) was a Nigerian-born professional boxer who held the undisputed middleweight and light-heavyweight championships. Tiger emigrated to Liverpool, England to pursue his boxing career and later to the United States.
