Phil Burrows (field Hockey)
Phillip Ross Burrows (born 25 April 1980 in Wellington) is a field hockey player from New Zealand, who earned his first cap for the national team, nicknamed ''The Black Sticks'', in January 2000. The striker is New Zealand's top field goal scorer and was named ''2003 New Zealand Player of the Year''. Since his debut, he has competed in over 120 international games for his country and appeared in three Summer Olympics: in 2004 in Athens, in 2008 in Beijing and in 2012 in London. He has played club hockey in The Netherlands since 2004, initially for Breda and since the summer of 2005, for HC Rotterdam. In the summer of 2010 he went to Braxgata in Belgium. In 2012 he returned to the Netherlands to play for HGC. 2002 Men's Hockey World Cup
The 2002 Men's Hockey World Cup was the 10th edition of the Hockey World Cup, a men's field hockey tournament. It was held from 24 February to 9 March 2002 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Germany won their first title after defeating Australia 2–1 in the final. Netherlands won the third place match by defeating South Korea 3–2 with a golden goal. For this tournament, the participating nations were increased from the standard 12 (as in the 5 previous editions) to 16 and each squad could consist of 18 players instead of the normal 16 after the FIH considered the hot and humid conditions in Malaysia. Qualification Each of the continental champions from five confederations and the host nation received an automatic berth. 2001 Men's Hockey World Cup Qualifier
The 2001 Men's Intercontinental Cup was a qualifier for the 2002 Men's Hockey World Cup. It was held between 17–29 July 2001 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Argentina won the tournament after defeating Spain 5–4 in the final. Alongside Poland, Belgium, India, Japan and New Zealand, these seven teams qualified for the World Cup. Qualification Except for Oceania, all other four confederations received quotas for teams to participate allocated by the International Hockey Federation based upon the FIH World Rankings.
