Phi Beta Rho
Phi Beta Rho Confraternity () is a coeducational student organization founded in 1962 in the Philippines. History Phi Beta Rho began on June 24, 1962 at the National University, Manila. Three engineering students, Ariel Gomez, Conrad Aquino, and Ruel Ramos, leaders of the rural farmers in their provinces and also members of the N.U. Bulldogs Varsity Team, were the founders. Their mutual goal was to promote the interest of the Filipino people specifically the students, marginalized sector such as the peasants, the workers, and the urban poor. On August 1 of the same year, they voted to recognise their co-athletes Annie Lactao and Isabel Romero to be the Founding Sisters of Rho Beta Phi Sorority as counterparts in upholding their principles and objectives. The University of the East ( fil, Pamantasan ng Silangan), also known as UE, is a leading private university located in Manila, Philippines. Founded in 1946, business tycoon Lucio Tan acquired the university in 1990. UE was once labeled as the "largest university in Asia" when its enrollment in the past reached over 65,000 students. First Quarter Storm
The First Quarter Storm ( fil, Sigwa ng Unang Sangkapat), often shortened into the acronym FQS, was a period of civil unrest in the Philippines which took place during the "first quarter of the year 1970". It included a series of demonstrations, protests, and marches against the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos, mostly organized by students and supported by workers, peasants, and members of the urban poor, from January 26 to March 17, 1970. Protesters at these events raised issues relating to social problems, authoritarianism, alleged election cheating, and corruption under Marcos. Violent dispersals of various FQS protests were among the first watershed events in which large numbers of Filipino students of the 1970s were radicalized against the Marcos administration. Presidential Proclamation 1081
Proclamation No. 1081 was the document which contained formal proclamation of martial law in the Philippines by President Ferdinand Marcos, as announced to the public on September 23, 1972. The proclamation marked the beginning of a 14-year period of authoritarian rule, which would include 8 years of Martial Law (ending on January 17, 1981 through Proclamation No. 2045), followed by six more years where Marcos retained essentially all of his powers as dictator. Marcos was finally ousted on February 25, 1986 as a result of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
