Buddhadeb Dasgupta (11 February 1944 – 10 June 2021) was an Indian filmmaker and poet best known for his Cinema of West Bengal, Bengali-language films like ''Bagh Bahadur'', ''Tahader Katha'', ''Charachar'' and ''Uttara (film), Uttara''. Five of his films have won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film, ''Bagh Bahadur'' (1989), ''Charachar'' (1993), ''Lal Darja'' (1997), ''Mondo Meyer Upakhyan'' (2002) and ''Kaalpurush (2005 film), Kaalpurush'' (2008), while ''Dooratwa'' (1978) and ''Tahader Katha'' (1993) have won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali. Aloknanda Roy
Alokananda Roy is an Indian actress known for her work in Bengali cinema and theatre. She made her thespian debut at the age of seven in the 1951 and later on became part of numerous Bengali plays. She made her screen debut with Satyajit Ray's ''Kanchenjungha'' (1962). She received a BFJA Award for her role in Buddhadeb Dasgupta's Bengali film ''Phera'' (1988). She appeared in National Award winning films such as ''Paromitar Ek Din'', ''Utsab'', ''Prohor'' and '' Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero''. Acting career After Sharmila Tagore was compelled to decline the role of Manisha in Satyajit Ray's ''Kanchenjungha'' (1962), the latter zeroed upon Alokananda Roy to play the character. 38th Berlin International Film Festival
The 38th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 12 to 23 February 1988. The festival opened with musical film ''Linie 1'' by Reinhard Hauff. The Golden Bear was awarded to the Chinese film '' Red Sorghum'' directed by Zhang Yimou. The retrospective was dedicated to colour films and it was titled ''The History of Colour Film''. Originally West German actor Gert Fröbe was selected as Jury President but later he had to decline due to illness, after which Moritz de Hadeln appointed the Italian film critic Guglielmo Biraghi as the Jury President. Kamu Mukherjee
Kamu Mukherjee (14 June 1931 – 6 December 2003) was a Bengali actor, best known for his role as Mandar Bose in ''Sonar Kella'' and Harun in Sandip Ray's first film ''Phatik Chand''. Career Mukherjee's first film appearance was in the 1959 film ''Sonar Harin'' with Uttam Kumar, Chhabi Biswas and Bhanu Bandopadhyay. He had gone to Satyajit Ray's house and approached Ray to act in his films and, thereafter, he worked with Ray in nine films. Mukherjee is known for his performances in different types of roles, both serious and comic, in Ray's films. His acting in the knife throwing scene in the film '' Joi Baba Felunath'' is one of the more remembered scenes from the filmmaker's oeuvre. He also starred in the films of Goutam Ghosh, Buddhadev Dashgupta and Arabinda Mukhopadhyay . Mukherjee died at the age of 72 on 6 December 2003 from rheumatoid arthritis in his home in Kolkata. Narendranath Mitra (30 January 1916 – 14 September 1975) was an Indian writer and poet, best known for his short stories in the Bengali-language. Several of his works have been adapted into films, such as Mahanagar directed by Satyajit Ray. Biography Narendranath Mitra was born in Sadardi village, Faridpur, Bengal Presidency (in modern-day Bangladesh). His father was a lawyer's clerk. His mother died when he was very young and he was brought up by his stepmother. He was based in Kolkata, now in India at the time of partition in 1947, and chose to remain in India when his birthplace fell to the share of East Pakistan. In 1933, he passed S. S. C. Level from Vanga High School obtaining first division marks. After doing his I. A. from Rajendra College, Faridpur, he went to Calcutta for further studies. He completed his B.
