Pfaffenhofen (district)
Pfaffenhofen () is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in Bavaria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the south and clockwise) the districts of Eichstätt, Kelheim, Freising, Dachau and Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, and the city of Ingolstadt. History In early medieval times the region was partially property of the powerful monasteries of Ilmmünster and Münchsmünster, and partially divided into tiny secular states. One of those states was the county of Scheyern. The counts were ancestors of the Wittelsbach family, who in 1180 became rulers of Bavaria. From that time on the region was a part of Bavaria. The district of Pfaffenhofen was established in 1972 by merging several former districts. Geography The district is located in the Hallertau Plains between the Isar and Danube rivers. The Danube crosses the northernmost part of the district. Pfaffenhofen An Der Ilm
Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm (Central Bavarian: ''Pfahofa an da Uim'') is a municipality in Bavaria, Germany, capital of the district Pfaffenhofen. It is located on the river Ilm, and had a population of 23,282 in 2004. As of a press release in October 2011 from the UN-backed annual International Awards for Liveable Communities (LivCom), Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm was saluted by judges for the quality of its environmental best practice. The Bavarian town of 23,000 people was also named the most liveable city with a population between 20,000-75,000. The elite group of cities fulfilled the awards’ range of key criteria involving environmental best practice, healthy lifestyle of citizens, community involvement as well as arts and cultural heritage. Geisenfeld is a town in the district of Pfaffenhofen, in Bavaria, Germany. It is situated on the river Ilm, southeast of Ingolstadt. The town grew up around Geisenfeld Abbey, a convent founded in 1037. Münchsmünster is a municipality in the district of Pfaffenhofen in Bavaria in Germany. The town grew up around the former Münchsmünster Abbey, which was demolished around 1817 and its stones used for construction of houses.
