Aihud Pevsner
Aihud Pevsner (December 18, 1925 – June 17, 2018) was an American experimental physicist who was the lead researcher credited with the discovery of the Eta meson. Born in Haifa, Mandatory Palestine, to Yoshua Pevsner and Esther Ben-Yeshaia, Aihud Pevsner immigrated to the United States with his parents at the age of three. The family, of Belarusian-Jewish descent, settled in New York. Pevsner served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1945, and married Lucille Wolf in 1949. Upon earning a doctorate in physics from Columbia University, he began teaching at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1956, Pevsner joined the Johns Hopkins University faculty. Over the course of his career, Pevsner received two Guggenheim fellowships, was named a Fulbright Scholar, and granted fellowship by the American Physical Society. Antoine Pevsner
Antoine Pevsner (12 April 1962) was a Russian-born sculptor and the older brother of Alexii Pevsner and Naum Gabo. Both Antoine and Naum are considered pioneers of twentieth-century sculpture. Biography Pevsner was born as Natan Borisovich Pevzner in Oryol, Russian Empire, into a Jewish family. Among the originators of and having coined the term, Constructivism, and pioneers of Kinetic Art, Pevsner and his brother Naum Gabo discovered a new use for metals and welding and made a new marriage of art and mathematics. Pevsner said: ''"Art must be inspiration controlled by mathematics. I have a need for peace, symphony, orchestration."'' He was one of the first to use the blowtorch in sculpture, welding copper rods onto sculptural forms and along with his brother, Naum, he issued the Realist Manifesto in 1920. David Pevsner (born December 31, 1958) is an American actor, singer, dancer, and writer. Pevsner appeared in the 1990 revival of ''Fiddler on the Roof'', 1991 revival of ''Rags'', and some other theatrical productions. Sir Nikolaus Bernhard Leon Pevsner (30 January 1902 – 18 August 1983) was a German-British art historian and architectural historian best known for his monumental 46-volume series of county-by-county guides, ''The Buildings of England'' (1951–74). Life Nikolaus Pevsner was born in Leipzig, Saxony, the son of Anna and her husband Hugo Pevsner, a Russian-Jewish fur merchant. He attended St. Thomas School, Leipzig, and went on to study at several universities, Munich, Berlin, and Frankfurt am Main, before being awarded a doctorate by Leipzig in 1924 for a thesis on the Baroque architecture of Leipzig. Shmuel Pevzner (; December 17, 1878 – May 7, 1930) was a Russian-born Jewish writer and industrialist. He was a delegate to the First World Zionist Congress in 1897, and one of the pioneers of settlement in Eretz Israel. Biography Shmuel Pevzner was born in Propoysk. He received a traditional Jewish education and then studied engineering at the Berlin Technical Institute, graduating in 1903. At the age of 18, he attended First Zionist Congress in Basel as its youngest delegate. In 1905, he immigrated to Palestine. Pevzner married Leah Ginsberg, daughter of Ahad Ha'am. Pevzner's sister, Shifra, married the Jewish writer Mordechai Hakohen. Business and public career In 1909, Pevzner established the Atid soap factory in Haifa, which employed 100 workers. Thomas Pevsner (2 October 1926 – 18 August 2014) was a British assistant film director and producer whose career spanned more than four decades. He was the second of three children born to Sir Nikolaus Pevsner, an architectural historian of Russian-Jewish origin. The family emigrated from Germany in 1933 to escape the Nazi regime.
