Cognomen
A ''cognomen'' (; plural ''cognomina''; from ''con-'' "together with" and ''(g)nomen'' "name") was the third name of a citizen of ancient Rome, under Roman naming conventions. Initially, it was a nickname, but lost that purpose when it became hereditary. Hereditary ''cognomina'' were used to augment the second name, the ''nomen gentilicium'' (the family name, or clan name), in order to identify a particular branch within a family or family within a clan. Petro Herkulan Malchuk, O.F.M. ( uk, Петро Геркулан Мальчук; ''pol. Piotr Malczuk'' 7 July 1965 – 27 May 2016) was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kyiv-Zhytomyr. Life Malchuk was born in Slobozia-Rașcov in the Moldovan SSR into a Polish family. He began studies at the Seminary of Riga in 1986. On 7 June 1992 Petro Herkulan Malchuk was ordained a priest by Jan Olszanski MIC, Bishop of Kamyanets-Podilskyi. In 1993 he made the Franciscan order profession. Pope Benedict XVI in 2008 appointed him titular bishop of media, and as auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Southeast Ukrainian Odessa-Simferopol. Petro Trad ( ar, بترو طراد) (born Beirut, Lebanon in 1876, died in Beirut on 5 April 1947) was a Lebanese lawyer, politician, who served as President of the French Mandate of Lebanon for a brief period (22 July 1943 – 21 September 1943). Biography Trad was born to an Eastern Orthodox family in Beirut and received a law degree from the University of Paris. He was an executive officer of the "Beirut Reform Movement," along with Salim Ali Salam. He was one of six signatories to a petition presented to the French Foreign Ministry in 1913 on behalf of Christian sects in Beirut, that demanded an end to Ottoman control of Syria (including Palestine and Lebanon) and called for a separate entity run by "French emissaries." This petition so angered Ottoman military governor Djemal Pasha against Lebanese in general and Christians in particular, that he asked the War Council in Aley for the execution of the six signatories. Petro Fedorovych Tkachenko (December 21, 1878 in Syniavtsi – January 3, 1919) was a prominent blind kobzar. Biography Petro Fedorovych Tkachenko-Halashko was one of the more outstanding kobzars of the Chernihiv region. He was born on December 21, 1878, in the village of Syniavtsi, Sosnytsia county near Chernihiv. At the age of 9 he became blind. At the age of 16 he began an apprenticeship with the kobzar Andriy Hayduk (Haydenko) and after a short period continued with Tereshko Parkhomenko under whom he studied for three years. ( Kornievsky states that he was partially sighted). Tkachenko's repertoire consisted mainly of songs. First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR. Early career Petro Shelest was born in a Ukrainian peasant family in a village near Kharkiv in 1908. He studied engineering in Kharkiv, and held industrial jobs between 193 and 1936. Petro Prokopovych (1775–1850, uk, Петро Прокопович) was a revolutionary Ukrainian beekeeper, the founder of commercial beekeeping and the inventor of the first movable frame hive. He introduced novelties in traditional beekeeping that allowed great progress in the practice. Among his most important inventions was a hive frame in a separate honey chamber of his beehive.
