Petr Hruška (poet)
Petr Hruška (born 7 June 1964) is a Czech poet, screenwriter, literary critic and academic. Life Hruška was born in Ostrava, a city known for coal-mining and steel production, and many of his poems reflect the industrial, working-class nature of the city, whose traditional industries have gone pear-shaped. He got his engineering degree (Ing.) at VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava (he specialised in water purification, 1987), MA at the Faculty of Arts of University of Ostrava (1990–94, thesis "Contemporary Czech subculture prose and poetry") and Ph.D. at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno ("Postwar surrealism and the reaction to the momentum of the avant-garde model in the official poetry", 2003). He works at the Department of Czech Literature at Czech Academy of Sciences in Brno where he focuses on Czech post-1945 poetry. Miloslav Topinka
Miloslav Topinka (July 4, 1945, Nový Etynk near Jindřichův Hradec) is a Czech poet. He graduated from psychology at the Charles University. In 1968 he took part in the student Expedition Lambaréné as the expedition's psychologist. In 1969 he became an editor of a monthly revue called ''Sešity''. After it was banned, he worked as a psychologist and a clerk; he spent the years 1980–1987 in Casablanca. After his return to Czechoslovakia he worked among other professions as a translator and editor of authors such as Rimbaud, Gilbert-Lecomte, Věra Linhartová, Kolář, Petr Kabeš etc. Miloslav Topinka lives in Prague. Karel Šiktanc
Karel Šiktanc (10 July 1928 – 26 December 2021) was a Czech poet and children's writer. Biography Šiktanc was born in Hřebeč in Kladno District. He published his first poetry collection ''Tobě, živote!,'' in 1951. Over the next seven decades, he published dozens of other collections of poetry, as well as many children's books. He also translated works by Boris Pasternak, Boris Slutsky and Yevgeny Yevtushenko into Czech and wrote dozens of television screenplays. He died in Prague at the age of 93. Awards In 2000, he received the Czech State Award for Literature for his poetry collection ''Šarlat'' (1999). He is a two-time winner of the Jaroslav Seifert Prize for his collections ''Srdce svého nejez'' (1989) and ''Nesmír'' (2011). Petr Král
Petr Král (4 September 1941 – 17 June 2020) was a Czech writer, initially influenced by surrealism. Král was born in Prague. Having graduated from FAMU, he worked as an editor in the Orbis publishing house, where he focused on a line of books about film and filmmakers. In 1968, he emigrated to France where he worked in a gallery, a photo shop, as a teacher, interpreter, translator, screenplay author, reviewer and so on. In 1984 he lived in Québec. From 1990 to 1991 he was a cultural counsellor at the Czech embassy in Paris. He translated from and into French (mainly modern poetry). He edited several anthologies. Since April 2006, he resided in Prague. Ivan Martin Jirous (23 September 1944 – 9 November 2011) was a Czech poet and dissident, best known as the artistic director of the Czech psychedelic rock group The Plastic People of the Universe, and later one of the key figures of the Czech underground during the communist regime. Jan Skácel
Jan Skácel (7 February 1922 in Vnorovy – 7 November 1989 in Brno) was a Czech poet of Moravian origin, widely acclaimed as one of the best poets who had been writing in Czech. He often juxtaposed the fear stoked by the communist regime in Czechoslovakia and the highly free syntax of Czech language. His poems are closely connected to the traditions and the nature of the region he lived in, Southern Moravia. His poems were mentioned in the book Ignorance written by Milan Kundera. Skácel was the editor of ''Host do domu'', an important literary magazine between 1963 and 1969.
