Petone (soccer)
Petone FC is an association football club in Petone, New Zealand. The club provides football for men, women and children. The club's men's first team competes in the Central League with the women's first team competing in the Capital Football W-League. The club is based at Memorial Park in the Lower Hutt suburb of Petone. History and achievements The club is the successor for Petone United, a club founded in 1889 as Petone Wanderers before merging with the Wellington Rowing Club in 1892, competing under the name United until disbandment in 1895. The club has won the Chatham Cup three times (1928, 1930, and 1949) and won the Central League title in 1990. Petone FC was originally known at Petone Association Football Club, however the club was renamed Petone Soccer Club in 1994. In 2009, club management voted to rename the club as Petone Football Club. Memorial Park, Lower Hutt
Memorial Park is a venue for football matches in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. It is the home of Petone FC who have been based there since 1961 as well as Capital Football who look after the game for the Wellington Region. The ground was also the training base and home ground for the National Women's team Capital Football who play in New Zealand's highest level domestic competition, the National Women's League. It was the first ground in Wellington to have a fully floodlit training pitch which was established in 1979. In 2012, Capital Football, New Zealand Football and Hutt City Council announced that Memorial Park would get an artificial pitch with the aim of making the ground the 'Home of Football' for the Wellington Region. 1949 Chatham Cup
The 1949 Chatham Cup was the 22nd annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. The competition was run on a regional basis, with regional associations each holding separate qualifying rounds. Teams taking part in the final rounds are known to have included: Eden AFC (Auckland), Hamilton Wanderers, Rotowaro Tigers (Waikato), Moturoa AFC (New Plymouth), Ohakea (Manawatu), Petone Settlers, Waterside (Wellington), Wigram, Technical Old Boys, Nomads (Christchurch), Northern AFC, Green Island FC (Dunedin), Stockton (West Coast) and Invercargill Thistle (Southland). Three Kings United
Three Kings United Football Club is a youth football club based in Three Kings, Auckland, New Zealand. They previously competed in the Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division 1, with their last appearance coming in 2019. In 2020, Three Kings United merged with Onehunga Sports to form Auckland United, which assumed Onehunga's position in the 2020 NRFL Premier season; the club's youth and social sectors remain in operation. Three Kings' home ground is Keith Hay Park, with a number of other parks used around central Auckland. Christchurch Technical
Cashmere Technical is an association football club based in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was formed in early 2012 from the merger of two of the city's premier teams, Cashmere Wanderers and Woolston Technical. The two clubs had agreed to work together in early 2011, and the 2011 Christchurch earthquake which devastated their home city and resulted in the loss of many playing facilities hastened their merger into a combined side. Cashmere Technical play in the Mainland Premier League, and have won the Chatham Cup twice as Cashmere but also once as Christchurch Technical Old Boys. Manurewa AFC is an amateur Association football, football (soccer) club in Manurewa, Auckland, New Zealand. They will compete in Lotto Sport Italia NRFL Division 1 with newly appointed head coach Marty Rodwell History Manurewa AFC was formed by the merger of Tramways (1929 Chatham Cup winner) and another club named Manurewa. The merged entity initially used the portmanteau name of Tramurewa, during which time the club won the 1931 Chatham Cup. Tramuwera reverted to the name of Manurewa in 1959, the name currently used by the club. Mount Albert-Ponsonby is a semi-professional association football club in Mount Albert, Auckland, New Zealand. History The club is an amalgamated between Mount Albert FC and Ponsonby in 1971. 1930 Chatham Cup
The 1930 Chatham Cup was the eighth annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. The competition was run on a regional basis, with five regional associations (Auckland, Wellington, Manawatu, Canterbury, and Otago) each holding separate qualifying rounds. In all, "almost 30 teams" took part. Teams taking part in the final rounds are known to have included Auckland Thistle (who defeated Auckland YMCA in the Auckland regional final), St. Andrews (Manawatu), Petone, and Western (Christchurch). Other teams known to have taken part include Wellington's Hospital AFC, Diamonds, and Waterside; Canterbury's Christchurch Thistle, Nomads, and Rangers; and Dunedin teams Port Chalmers and Northern. Petone
Petone (Māori: ''Pito-one''), a large suburb of Lower Hutt, Wellington, stands at the southern end of the Hutt Valley, on the northern shore of Wellington Harbour. The Māori name means "end of the sand beach". Europeans first settled in Petone in 1840, making it one of the oldest European settlements in the Wellington Region. It became a borough in 1888, and merged with Lower Hutt (branded as "Hutt City") in 1989. Geography Petone is flat. It is nestled between the Hutt River to the north and east, hills on the west and Wellington Harbour to the south. The land along the Petone foreshore was uplifted by a metre or more after the 1855 Wairarapa earthquake. This improved drainage around the mouth of the Hutt River. The foreshore at Petone has a shallow sandy beach, formed by sediment from the Hutt River, which is a popular family swimming spot.
