Peterborough Festival
The Peterborough Festival is held annually in the UK city of Peterborough. The festival takes place over a two-week period, usually the last week of June and the first week of July. The first set of events of the festival take place at the embankment, beside the Town Bridge. The second set take place at Central Park next to the Regional College. The festival attracts a crowd of over 100,000 each year, and is aimed and bringing communities together. Parades, music and performances are all included, with Indian, Caribbean and European music featured each year. The festival has also included a fishing event. Peterborough () is a cathedral city in Cambridgeshire, east of England. It is the largest part of the City of Peterborough unitary authority district (which covers a larger area than Peterborough itself). It was part of Northamptonshire until 1974, when county boundary change meant the city became part of Cambridgeshire instead. The city is north of London, on the River Nene which flows into the North Sea to the north-east. In 2020 the built-up area subdivision had an estimated population of 179,349. In 2021 the Unitary Authority area had a population of 215,671. The local topography is flat, and in some places, the land lies below sea level, for example in parts of the Fens to the east and to the south of Peterborough. Central Park, Peterborough
Central Park is a Green Flag-awarded public park in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, north of the city centre. Attractions include a paddling pool, sandpit, tennis courts, formal gardens, an aviary, bowling greens, a croquet lawn and a café. Various shows are held throughout the year, including dog shows and a Viking heritage day. History The Peterborough Land Company sought investors to purchase 333 acres (134.8 hectares) of land to the north of the city in 1875. The land was to be developed for model housing, with a park planned at the centre. When the partially complete park was opened at Easter 1877, admittance was by subscription only. It remained relatively unchanged until 1908, when Peterborough City Council took over responsibility for the site on a 999 year lease.
