Peter Weideman
Peter Weidemann (23 March 1940 – 15 June 2012) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). After leaving Collingwood he played and coached many teams in Tasmania, New South Wales and country Victoria. He is the father of former Adelaide footballer Wayne Weidemann. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. Wayne Weidemann
Wayne Weidemann (born 21 October 1966) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). The “Weed” as he was fondly known as, was a highly underrated player, often showing strength, agility, versatility and ability in directing play up forward or back. Rumours of internal disgruntled selection table members for three years constantly created disharmony for the AAT panel and the AFL courtesy of Weidemann’s omission from the team. AFL career Originally from Fish Creek in country Victoria, Weidemann played for the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Weidemann played 68 AFL games between 1991 and 1996 and kicked 26 goals. South West Football League (New South Wales)
The South West District Football League was a major Australian rules football competition which ran from 1910 until 1981 in the Riverina region of New South Wales. History The first recorded Australian Rules Football match in the Riverina area was on the 1st August, 1881 between Wagga Wagga and the more experienced Albury team and was played in Wagga. The South West District Football Association (SWDFL) was formed in 1913, when it superseded the Ganmain Football Association, which was formed in 1910, with all clubs moving into play in the SWDFL competition. In 1924 a South Western District Football League team played Collingwood Football Club at Narrandera with Collingwood winning, 86 to SWDFL 76. In May, 1930 the SWDFL competition was abandoned, after Whitton withdrew earlier at the AGM, then both Ganmain and Matong club withdrew due to a lack of players.
