Peter Ward (athlete)
Peter Hans Dudley Ward (7 February 1913 – 13 January 2009) was an English athlete who competed for Great Britain in the 1936 Summer Olympics. Career He was born in Berlin, German Empire to an English father and German mother. He studied Economics at the University of Cambridge and won a blue for athletics and a half-blue for cross-country. He was selected for the 1936 Olympics after setting a new 5,000 metres games record at the 1935 International Universities Games in Budapest and a new 3 miles record at the 1936 AAA championship. In 1936 he finished eleventh the 1500 metres event, narrowly beating out fellow English runner Mike O'Donnell. At the 1938 British Empire Games he won the silver medal in the 3 miles competition. He also participated in the 6 miles contest but did not finish the race. Peter Ward (footballer, Born 1955)
Peter Ward (born 27 July 1955) is an English retired footballer, whose most successful times were with Brighton & Hove Albion, mostly as a forward. He now lives in the United States. Early life Ward was born at St. Michael's Hospital in Lichfield, Staffordshire. He was the first child born to his parents, Colin and Mavis Ward, who met as members of the Derby Serenaders marching band. The band remained a major part of Ward's family life, with Colin encouraging Ward to take up playing the drums as well. Along with music, he was attracted to football from an early age; his father would later state that he "kicked a ball around as soon as he could walk." Club career Early career and Brighton Ward was an apprentice engine fitter at the Rolls-Royce plant in Derby. Peter Ward (born 15 October 1964) is an English professional football manager who played over 350 Football League games as a midfielder. He was a player, manager, assistant manager and coach at Stockport County. Playing career Ward played for Chester le Street, Newcastle United, Huddersfield Town, Rochdale, Stockport County, Wrexham and Morecambe. He started his career with the local Chester le Street town side and was spotted whilst playing in the Northern League by Jack Charlton at Newcastle United. However, following Jack Charlton's departure he was released by the St James' Park club and he returned to play for Chester-Le-Street Town. The following year he was given another opportunity when he was subsequently transferred to Huddersfield Town. Peter Douglas Ward (born 1949) is an American paleontologist and professor at the University of Washington, Seattle, and Sprigg Institute of Geobiology at the University of Adelaide. He has written numerous popular science works for a general audience and is also an adviser to the Microbes Mind Forum. In 2000, along with his co-author Donald E. Brownlee, he co-originated the term '' Rare Earth'' and developed the Medea hypothesis alleging that multicellular life is ultimately self-destructive. Peter M. Ward (5 November 1876 – 9 February 1943) was a New Zealand-born rugby union player who represented Australia. A fly-half, he was born in Invercargill. Ward was described as "astute and a skillful inside back". A member of the Britannia club Ward initially played for the Southland province between 1897 and 1898. He then moved to Sydney, Australia in 1899 and joined the Marrackville club. He was selected for New South Wales to play in their two matches against the touring Great Britain side. After this he claimed a total of four international rugby caps for the Australia. His Test debut was against Great Britain, at Sydney, on 24 June 1899, the inaugural rugby Test match played by an Australian national representative side. Peter Langdon Ward is a geophysicist specializing in seismology and volcanology. Life and work Ward is an American earth scientist and geophysicist who has studied microearthquakes associated with active fault systems and volcanic eruptions throughout the western United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Iceland, Central America, and the East African Rift System. He developed a prototype global volcano surveillance system that relayed data through the ERTS satellite. Peter Thomas Ward (July 26, 1937 – March 16, 2022) was a Canadian-born professional baseball player who appeared in 973 games over nine seasons in Major League Baseball as a third baseman, outfielder and first baseman for the Baltimore Orioles (), Chicago White Sox (–) and New York Yankees (). Ward was the runner-up for the American League (AL) Rookie of the Year Award (to pitcher and teammate Gary Peters) in 1963, but was named that season's AL Rookie of the Year by ''The Sporting News''.
