Peter Smith is an American classical musician been associate principal oboe of the Philadelphia Orchestra since 1991. Education A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Smith studied with Philadelphia Orchestra Principal Oboe Richard Woodhams; Smith has also studied with Louis Rosenblatt and Marc Lifschey. Career Smith has spent summers participating in such festivals as the Colorado Music Festival, where he was principal oboe in 1991. He was featured in the Philadelphia Orchestra’s performance of Martinu’s Sinfonia concertante for violin, oboe, cello, bassoon, and orchestra at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts in July 1994. He was also a soloist in The Philadelphia Orchestra’s Absolutely Mozart Festival in a performance of Mozart’s Quintet for Piano and Winds with pianist Emanuel Ax in June 2003. Peter George Smith (born 3 May 1942) CBE BSc DSc HonMFPHM FMedSci, is an eminent epidemiologist and Professor of Tropical Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Peter Smith (1 August 1924 – 26 January 1954) was a New Zealand rugby union player. He was a member of the 1947 All Blacks team that toured Australia, but did not appear in any Test matches. He played second five-eighth. Personal life Smith was born in Kaikohe and attended Kaikohe Primary and then Kaikohe District High School. He was one of three children. His father Leslie was a baker who had served in World War I and played rugby for both South Auckland and North Island Country. His mother, Niria Takiwira, belonged to the hapū Te Uri-o-Hua of Ngāpuhi. His brother Johnny was also an All Black. Peter died in 1954, aged 29. Peter Smith is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He played for the Gold Coast, Canterbury-Bankstown, South Sydney and Illawarra in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Smith also played for Leeds in England. Playing career Smith made his first grade debut for Canterbury-Bankstown in round 13 1979 against North Sydney at North Sydney Oval. Canterbury would go on to reach the 1979 NSWRL Grand Final against St. George but were defeated 17–13 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Smith played at second-row in the match. In 1980, Smith missed out on playing in Canterbury's premiership winning team which defeated Eastern Suburbs in the grand final but he did play in the reserve grade premiership team which defeated Parramatta. Peter Smith (born 27 March 1953) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and coaching mentor of the McGill Redbirds and Martlets programs at McGill University in Montreal. He was the head coach of the McGill Martlets ice hockey program for twenty seasons, during 1999 to 2020, and is the winningest coach in McGill ice hockey history.
