Peter Pišťanek
Peter Pišťanek (28 April 1960 – 22 March 2015) was a Slovak writer. He began publishing short stories in the 1980s, and his first novel, ''Rivers of Babylon'', came out in 1991. This was adapted into a film of the same name in 1998 by Vladimir Balco. The book was followed by the sequels ''Wooden Village'' (1994) and ''End of Freddy'' (1999). Two more of Pišťanek's works were adapted to film, both by Juraj Nvota: his short story "Muzika", which won Best Film at the Sun in a Net Awards in 2008, and his novel ''Rukojemník – Lokomotívy v daždi'', in 2014. Pišťanek committed suicide on 22 March 2015. Life and career In the 1980s, Pišťanek was a co-founder and drummer in the music group Devínska Nová Vec, named after the Bratislava borough where he was born in 1960. He also published stories in the magazine ''Slovenské pohľady''. He briefly studied dramaturgy and screenwriting at VŠMU but did not finish his studies. Devínska Nová Ves
Devínska Nová Ves ( hu, Dévényújfalu, hr, Devinsko Novo Selo, german: Theben-Neudorf) is a borough of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Its western borders are formed by the Morava River, which also forms the national border between Slovakia and Austria. Devínska Nová Ves is notable mainly for its large Volkswagen factory, for Sandberg, a world-known palaeontological site, where many fossils of prehistoric animals are found , and for the a cyclist bridge over Morava river linking it with Schloss Hof in Austria. Devínska Nová Ves is the last train station in Slovakia on the railway line from Bratislava to Vienna. Among other things, it is home to the largest Croatian community in Slovakia. Croatian is still spoken here, as well as in Čuňovo and Jarovce, villages on the southern bank of the Danube. Ján Horecký (minister)
Ján Horecký (born 23 June 1968 in Trenčín) is a Slovak teacher and politician. He serves as an MP of the National Council. He had previously served as the Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport of Slovakia in the government of Eduard Heger since 4 October 2020. Teaching career In 1991 Horecký graduated in teaching of Mathematics and Geography at the Comenius University. Between 1991–1997 he worked as a teacher at the Ján Papánek High School in Bratislava. Between 1997–2003 he worked as a teacher at the Gymnasium Jur Hronec. Until 1999 he also headed the school's Foundation. Between 2004–2008 he taught at the United School at Tilgnerova 14 in Bratislava. In 2008 he became the Principal of the Catholic St. Francis United School, a position he held until 2020. Suicide is the act of intentionally causing one's own death. Mental disorders (including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, anxiety disorders), physical disorders (such as chronic fatigue syndrome), and substance abuse (including alcoholism and the use of and withdrawal from benzodiazepines) are risk factors. The ceremony was held in association with the local Music Fund (HF) and, for the first time, with the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry Slovakia (SNS IFPPI). For that reason, the accolades were renamed after the Artmedia Music Academy, established by ZAI and the related company. The winners received a plaque with a five-pointed golden star.
