Peter Philipps Sr.
Peter Philipps (June 5, 1835February 17, 1917) was a German American immigrant, blacksmith, and politician. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly for two terms. Biography Philipps was born in Geisfeld, then part of the Rhine Province in the Kingdom of Prussia. The '' Wisconsin Blue Book'' lists his birthdate as June 5, 1835, but other sources differ. In 1864, during the fourth year of the American Civil War, he was drafted into the Union Army. He was enrolled in Company B of the 45th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, where he served through the end of the war, rising to the rank of sergeant Sergeant (abbreviated to Sgt. and capitalized when used as a named person's title) is a rank in many uniformed organizations, principally military and policing forces. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives.
