Peter Mitchell (photographer)
Peter Mitchell (born 1943) is a British documentary photographer, known for documenting Leeds and the surrounding area for more than 40 years. Mitchell's photographs have been published in three monographs of his own. His work was exhibited at Impressions Gallery in 1979, and nearly thirty years later was included in major survey exhibitions throughout the UK including at Tate Britain and Media Space in London, and the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford. Mitchell's work is held in the permanent collections of the Royal Photographic Society and Leeds Art Gallery. Life and work Mitchell was born in Manchester in 1943. Val Williams
Val Williams is a British curator and author who has become an authority on British photography. She is the Professor of the History and Culture of Photography at the London College of Communication, part of the University of the Arts London, and was formerly the Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at the Hasselblad Center. Daniel Meadows
Daniel Meadows (born 1952) is an English photographer turned maker of digital stories, and a teacher of photography turned teacher of participatory media. Life and career as photographer Meadows was born in Great Washbourne, Gloucestershire, "in the middle of nowhere on the edge of the Cotswolds", on 28 January 1952. Both of his parents had Suffolk origins; his father was a land agent for the Dumbleton Estate, in which the family lived; his mother developed multiple sclerosis when Daniel was young and this gradually became more acute. He spent his early years without television. Chris Killip
Christopher David Killip (11 July 1946 – 13 October 2020) was a Manx photographer who worked at Harvard University from 1991 to 2017, as a Professor of Visual and Environmental Studies. Killip is known for his black and white images of people and places especially of Tyneside during the 1980s. Paul Graham (photographer)
Paul Graham (born 1956) is a British fine-art and documentary photographer. He has published three survey monographs, along with 17 other publications. His work has been exhibited in the Italian Pavilion of the 49th Venice Biennale (2001), Switzerland's national Fotomuseum Winterthur, and a solo exhibition at New York City's Museum of Modern Art. He was included in Tate's ''Cruel and Tender'' survey exhibition of 20th century photography (2003), and a European mid career survey exhibition at Museum Folkwang, Essen, which toured to the Deichtorhallen, Germany, and Whitechapel Gallery, London. A 2015 survey of his American work, ''The Whiteness of the Whale,'' was exhibited at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. Anna Fox
Anna Fox (born 1961) is a British documentary photographer, known for a "combative, highly charged use of flash and colour". In 2019 she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society. Career and work Fox completed her degree in Photography at West Surrey College of Art and Design in Farnham, Surrey in 1986 under tutors Martin Parr, Paul Graham and Karen Knorr. Fox first came to attention with her 1988 documentary study of London office life on the mid-1980s, ''Work Stations: Office Life in London''. She is perhaps best known for her ''Zwarte Piet'' series made between 1993 and 1998, published as the book ''Zwarte Piet'', which documents 'black face' folk culture traditions in the Netherlands. John Davies (photographer)
John Davies (born 1949) is a British landscape photographer. He is known for completing long-term projects documenting Great Britain and exploring the industrialisation of space. In 2008, he was nominated for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize. Stephen Dalton (photographer)
Stephen Dalton (born 1937) is an English wildlife photographer and author. He is known for his pioneering work, from the early 1970s onward, in high-speed nature photography. He was the first person ever to record pin sharp images of insects in flight. His work covers a wide variety of animals: from amphibians and birds to mammals and invertebrates. Life and work Dalton was born in Surrey in 1937 and from a young age was an enthusiast for nature and photography. Vanley Burke
Vanley Burke (born 1951) is a British Jamaican photographer and artist. His photographs capture experiences of his community's arrival in Britain, the different landscapes and cultures he encountered, the different ways of survival and experiences of the wider African-Caribbean community. Life and work Vanley Burke was born in St. Thomas, Jamaica, in 1951. For his 10th birthday, he was sent a " Box Brownie" camera—a Kodak Brownie 127—by his mother, who in the late 1950s had gone to live in England, while he remained with his aunt in St.Thomas. Jane Bown
Jane Hope Bown CBE (13 March 1925 – 21 December 2014) was an English photographer who worked for ''The Observer'' newspaper from 1949. Her portraits, primarily photographed in black and white and using available light, received widespread critical acclaim and her work has been described by Antony Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon, Lord Snowdon as "a kind of English Henri Cartier-Bresson, Cartier-Bresson." Keith Arnatt
Keith Arnatt (1930–2008) was a British conceptual artist. As well as conceptual art his work is sometimes discussed in relation to land art, minimalism, and photography. He lived and worked in London, Liverpool, Yorkshire and Monmouthshire. Life and work Arnatt was born in Oxford. Paul Joyce
Paul Joyce (born 1940, or 1941 or 1944) is a British photographer and filmmaker. His portraits of artists are held in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London and his Welsh landscape photographs are held in the collection of Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales. Life and work Joyce was born in Winchester, Hampshire. Between 1976 and 1979 he visited Wales on several occasions, resulting in a touring exhibition and a catalogue.
