Peter Meyer (footballer)
Peter Meyer (born 18 February 1940, in Düsseldorf) is a retired German football player. He spent four seasons in the Bundesliga with Fortuna Düsseldorf and Borussia Mönchengladbach. He also represented Germany once, in a UEFA Euro 1968 qualifier against Albania. Career Fortuna Düsseldorf Meyer started his career at Wersten 04 and TuRU Düsseldorf before joining Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1960. He played in the 1961–62 DFB-Pokal final with the club, losing 2–1 to 1. FC Nürnberg. In 1966, he helped Fortuna reach the Bundesliga for the first time, scoring twice in a 5–1 victory against Kickers Offenbach in the ''Aufstiegsrunde'', securing the club's promotion on goal average. He appeared 25 times and scored eight goals during the following season in the Bundesliga, but could not prevent Fortuna from being relegated at the end of the campaign. 1960 United States Figure Skating Championships
The 1960 U.S. Figure Skating Championships was held at the Civic Ice Arena in Seattle from January 27 through 30, 1960. Medals were awarded in three colors: gold (first), silver (second), and bronze (third) in four disciplines – men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing – across three levels: senior, junior, and novice. The event determined the U.S. teams for the 1960 Winter Olympics and 1960 World Championships. Senior results In the men's, ladies', and pairs' divisions, the competitions were won by the defending champions, while the vacant dance title was won by the previous year's silver medalists. Men Tim Brown won the compulsory figures competition over David Jenkins, but Jenkins responded with a superior free skating that included two triple jumps. Peter Meyer (merchant)
Sir Peter Meyer ( – 9 January 1728) was a major City of London merchant in the West Indies trade, merchant banker and a co-owner of the leading London international trade firm Meyer & Berenberg. Meyer was born in Hamburg; his family was from the Duchy of Holstein. The son of the Hamburg merchant Jacob Meyer, he settled in London, became an English citizen in 1691 and was knighted at St James's Palace on 9 October 1714. He owned plantations on Barbados, a sugar refinery in London and the estate Poynter's Grove in Totteridge. In 1697, he married Sarah Anna Berenberg (1665-), the sister of his business partner John Henry Berenberg. She was a member of the Berenberg family and a descendant of the Amsinck family. Peter Meyer (January 6, 1920 – March 7, 2002) was a German-born American astrophysicist notable for his research of cosmic rays. The University of Chicago said that Meyer "conducted pioneering studies on cosmic rays". The American Astronomical Society said that Meyer was "a distinguished astrophysicist and pioneer in cosmic-ray observations". Meyer was director of the Enrico Fermi Institute at the University of Chicago, was a chairman of the University of Chicago's physics department, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He was also chair of the Cosmic Ray Physics Division of the American Physical Society, a member of the Space Science Board of the National Academy of Sciences, and chair of the Committee on Astronomy and Astrophysics of the Space Science Board. Puhdys
The Puhdys () were a German rock band, formed in Oranienburg (Brandenburg), GDR, in 1969, although by then they had been performing together—with various lineups—as the Puhdys since 1965. Although they are especially popular in their native eastern Germany, the Puhdys enjoyed significant success outside the GDR, and were one of the first East German bands allowed to tour West Germany. They are one of the most successful German-language rock groups. Band history The Puhdys developed out of the Udo-Wendel-Combo, founded in 1965. When guitarist and singer Wendel left the band late in the year, it needed a new name.
