Peter McCarthy (film Producer)
Peter McCarthy is an American film producer, screenwriter, director, and editor. He is best known as a producer on the film ''Repo Man''. Originally from Chicago, McCarthy moved to Los Angeles to attend film school at UCLA. There, he met Alex Cox and Jonathan Wacks, with whom he went on to make ''Repo Man''. McCarthy and Wacks established a production company in Venice Beach and created the film as their first feature release. He continued producing films in the 1980s, including ''Sid and Nancy, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka,'' and ''Tapeheads''. McCarthy directed his first film, ''Floundering ''Floundering'' is a 1994 comedy film set in the aftermath of the Los Angeles riots of 1992. Peter McCarthy (24 November 1845 – 29 May 1919) was an American manufacturer, businessman and philanthropist from Troy, New York. Biography Early life Peter McCarthy was born in Troy, New York on November 24, 1845, to Catholic Irish immigrants Florence McCarthy and Mary Crowley. McCarthy grew up poor. He was educated in Troy's public school system. After graduating Troy High School in 1863, he worked in the sash and bind business in Troy. In 1864 McCarthy traveled west to Clinton, Iowa and lived there for two years. He then moved to Durham, Pennsylvania and was employed by the safe manufacturer Lewis P. Lillie. When he returned to Troy, New York, Peter and his brother Charles McCarthy founded C. & P. McCarthy and began trading in waste, rags, wool and cotton. C. & P. McCarthy was located on Riverstreet. Peter Charles McCarthy Robinson (9 November 1951 – 6 October 2004) was an English comedian, radio and television presenter and travel writer. He was noted for his best-selling travel books ''McCarthy's Bar'' (2000) and ''The Road to McCarthy'' (2002), in which he explored Ireland and the Irish diaspora around the world. Born in Warrington, Lancashire to an English father of Irish descent and an Irish mother, McCarthy spent much of his early life in his mother's homeland, developing a love for the country. After attending West Park Grammar School, he later decided to become a writer, studying English at Leicester University. After a brief stint as a teacher, he moved to Brighton, where he was involved in local art community projects and first involved himself in comedy, co-founding a comedy troupe known as Cliff Hanger Theatre with Robin Driscoll, Steve McNicholas, Tony Haase and Rebecca Stevens.
