Peter Louis
Peter Louis (born 08 August 1945) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer and coach. He played in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership for Sydney's Canterbury-Bankstown club in the 1960s as well as in the country for Woy Woy's club. Louis then started coaching there before returning to Sydney, eventually becoming head coach of the North Sydney Bears in the 1990s. After almost seven seasons he became the National Rugby League referees' coach. Playing career Louis started his playing career in Woy Woy before moving to Sydney and joining NSWRFL premiership club, Canterbury-Bankstown in 1968. He played mostly in reserve grade, with a handful of appearances in first grade during the 1969 NSWRFL season. Part-way through the 1970 season Louis returned to Woy Woy where he was captain-coach. Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Belmore, a suburb in the Canterbury-Bankstown region of Sydney. They compete in the NRL Telstra Premiership, as well as competitions facilitated by the New South Wales Rugby League, including the Canterbury Cup NSW, the Jersey Flegg Cup, Harvey Norman Women's Premiership, Tarsha Gale Cup, S. G. Ball Cup and the Harold Matthews Cup. The club was admitted to the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership, predecessor of the current NRL competition, in 1935. They won their first premiership in their fourth year of competition with another soon after, and after spending the 1950s and most of the 1960s on the lower rungs went through a very strong period in the 1980s, winning four premierships in that decade. Newcastle Knights
The Newcastle Knights are an Australian professional rugby league club based in Newcastle, New South Wales. They compete in Australasia's premier rugby league competition, the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership. Playing in red and blue, the Knights joined the top tier competition in 1988, 79 years after the previous Newcastle based team, the Newcastle Rebels had departed the Sydney competition with the formation of a separate league competition based in the Newcastle region. The club has won two premierships over its history (1997 and 2001) and is one of only two clubs (the other being the Wests Tigers) that has never lost a grand final in which it has participated. 2002 NRL Season
The 2002 NRL season was the 95th season of professional rugby league football in Australia and the fifth to be run by the National Rugby League. The season was affected by the competition-leading Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs' salary cap breach finding, which saw them relegated to the bottom of the NRL ladder. As a result, the New Zealand Warriors won their first minor premiership and made it to the grand final for the first time, playing against foundation club the Sydney Roosters who won the match and collected their first premiership in 27 years. Pre-season In February 2002 the National Rugby League's Director of Legal and Business Affairs, David Gallop, was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the NRL, succeeding David Moffett. Chris McKivat
Christopher Hobart McKivat (alternatively spelled McKivatt, pronounced ; 27 November 1880 − 4 May 1941) was an Australian rugby union and rugby league player – a dual-code rugby international. He represented the Wallabies in over 20 Tests and tour matches from 1907 to 1909 and the Kangaroos in 5 Tests from 1910 to 1912. He is unique in Australian rugby history as the only man to captain both the national rugby union and rugby league teams. Following his playing career he became the most successful coach of North Sydney in the club's history. Kieran Dempsey
Kieran Dempsey is an Australian former head coach of North Sydney who played in the National Rugby League competition. Dempsey was the last head coach of the club when they were a first grade side. Coaching career Dempsey was the assistant coach to North Sydney head coach Peter Louis during the 1999 NRL season. Midway through 1999, Louis departed the club after 7 seasons in charge and Dempsey was promoted to be the new head coach. At the time of his appointment, Norths were sitting 12th on the table and were enduring one of their toughest seasons. Dempsey's first six games in charge all ended in defeats including a 56–18 loss against Cronulla-Sutherland. Dempsey's first win came in round 25 1999 against Melbourne at North Sydney Oval which would also prove to be the club's last first grade game played at the ground. The 1999 NRL season was the 92nd season of professional rugby league football in Australia, and the second to be run by the National Rugby League. With the exclusion of the Adelaide Rams and Gold Coast Chargers, and the joint venture of the St. George Dragons and Illawarra Steelers, seventeen teams competed for the NRL Premiership during the 1999 season, which culminated in the first grand final to be played at Stadium Australia.
