Peter King (Gaelic Footballer)
Peter King (born 1983) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a left corner-back for the Tipperary senior team. Born in Ballina, County Tipperary, King first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He joined the senior panel during the 2005 championship. King immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one Tommy Murphy Cup medal. At club level King is a one-time championship medallist with Monaleen. King retired from inter-county football following the conclusion of the 2007 championship. Tommy Murphy Cup
The Tommy Murphy Cup was a Gaelic football competition, featuring senior county teams eliminated from the early stages of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship and also Kilkenny when not fielding a team in the main All-Ireland. The series of games, organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association, were played during the summer months with the final being played in August at Croke Park. The Cup was named after Tommy Murphy, a footballer from County Laois who was, appropriately for the competition, the only member of the Team of the Millennium from a county which had not won an All-Ireland. Later changes to the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship meant that the 2008 Tommy Murphy Cup featured the eight lowest-ranking teams in National Football League, unless the teams reached the final of their respective provincial championships. 2005 Tommy Murphy Cup
The 2005 Tommy Murphy Cup was the 2nd staging of the Tommy Murphy Cup, the Gaelic Athletic Association's secondary inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The draw for the preliminary round fixtures took place on 9 July 2005. The championship began on 16 July 2005 and ended on 4 September 2005. Clare were the defending champions but they did not enter the championship. On 4 September 2005, Tipperary won the championship following a 3-10 to 0-15 defeat of Wexford in the final. This was their first Tommy Murphy Cup title. Wexford's Mattie Forde was the championship's top scorer with 2-14. The 2007 Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, was a Gaelic football competition in Ireland, and was the most significant and prestigious competition in the sport held that year. It began on 13 May 2007, with the final game took place for Sunday, 16 September. Kerry were the defending champions, as well as the most successful team in the competition. Donegal entered the Championship as the unbeaten National League champions, as well as having been runners-up to Tyrone in the 2007 Dr. McKenna Cup. The draw for the provincial championships took place on 4 November 2006. Kerry retained their championship, the first team to do so since Cork won back-to-back titles in 1989 and 1990. The final was the first occasion when two teams from Munster, Kerry and Cork, competed, although not the first with two teams from the same Province. 2005 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship 2005, known for sponsorship reasons as the 2005 Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the premier Gaelic football competition in 2005. It consisted of 33 teams and began on Saturday 7 May 2005. Few surprises came during the championship with the dominance of the Ulster teams evident once again. Gaelic football's "Big Three" of this era - Armagh GAA, Armagh, Kerry GAA, Kerry, Tyrone GAA, Tyrone - all progressed to the semi-finals. The Championship concluded on Sunday 25 September 2005 when Tyrone defeated Kerry, who were playing in their second consecutive All-Ireland Final, by a scoreline of 1-16 to 2-10. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag.
