Peter Gill (born 7 September 1939) is a Welsh theatre director, playwright, and actor. He was born in Cardiff to George John and Margaret Mary (née Browne) Gill, and educated at St Illtyd's College, Cardiff. Career An actor from 1957–65, he directed his first production without décor, at the Royal Court Theatre in August 1965, ''A Collier's Friday Night'' by D. H. Lawrence. Having begun his career as an actor, he is now best known for his work as a director and playwright. Royal Court In 1964, he became Assistant Director at the Royal Court and Associate Director in 1970, best known there as the director of three hitherto under-rated plays by D. H. Lawrence, presented as a group in 1968. In 1969, the Royal Court also presented two of his own first plays, ''The Sleepers' Den'' and ''Over Gardens Out'', "which revealed that Gill could evoke with the economy of means and lyrical skill the circumstances of his Cardiff boyhood." Peter Gill VC (September 1831 – 26 July 1868) was born in St Paul's Parish, Dublin and was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Details Gill was approximately 25 years old, and a sergeant-major in the Loodiana Regiment, during the Indian Mutiny on 4 June 1857 at Benares, India when he (and Sergeant-Major Matthew Rosamund) were awarded the Victoria Cross for the following deeds: Gill later achieved the rank of lieutenant. Pete Gill
Peter Gill (born 9 June 1951) is an English former heavy metal drummer, formerly a member of The Glitter Band, Saxon and Motörhead. Gill was one of the two drummers in The Glitter Band, then formed part of the original line-up of Saxon in 1978. He stayed with them until 1981, recording their first four albums, leaving the band after he injured his hand. Gill later spent three years with Motörhead, 1984 to 1987, recording four new tracks for the compilation '' No Remorse'', '' The Birthday Party'' and one full album, '' Orgasmatron''. The band also toured extensively in the time Gill was a member. After years of absence Gill reunited with his former Saxon colleagues in a new band, named Son of a Bitch with bassist Steve Dawson and guitarist Graham Oliver. Peter E. Gill (23 July 1930 – 23 April 2020) was an English professional golfer. In 1959 he won the Coombe Hill Assistants' Tournament and the Gor-Ray Cup in successive weeks. He died in 2020 from COVID-19 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in England. Professional career Gill was an assistant professional in the 1950s, first at Little Aston Golf Club and then at Addington Golf Club. He played regularly in assistants' tournaments and in 1953, while still at Little Aston, he reached the semi-final of the Gor-Ray Cup, the PGA Assistants' Championship, before losing to Geoffrey Hunt. He qualified for the Open Championship the same year. In 1959 he won the Coombe Hill Assistants' Tournament and the Gor-Ray Cup in successive weeks. Peter Nigel Gill (born 12 November 1947) is a former English cricketer. Gill was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. He was born in Clayton, Staffordshire. Gill made his debut for Staffordshire in the 1966 Minor Counties Championship against the Lancashire Second XI. Gill played Minor counties cricket for Staffordshire from 1966 to 1985, which included 141 Minor Counties Championship matches and 3 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches. In 1971, he made his List A debut for Staffordshire against Glamorgan in the Gillette Cup. He made 6 further appearances in List A cricket for the county, the last coming against Gloucestershire in the 1984 NatWest Trophy.
