Peter Francey
Peter Francey was the co-director of a music management company, Magic Management who in the early to mid-1970s managed some prominent Canadian rock music artists. He was the publisher of at least two magazines relating to entertainment. He later moved into software package design and consultancy as co-director of several companies. In the 1970s one of his companies was nominated three times for a Juno Award in relation to their work. During the 1980s, another company of his was selected by ''Time Magazine'' for one of the top ten designs in the software field. Background and career Francey and partner Clark Spencer formed Magic Management in 1970. Juno Award
The Juno Awards, more popularly known as the JUNOS, are awards presented annually to Canadian musical artists and bands to acknowledge their artistic and technical achievements in all aspects of music. New members of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame are also inducted as part of the awards ceremonies. The Juno Awards are often referred to as the Canadian equivalent of the Brit Awards in the United Kingdom or the Grammy Awards given in the United States. Magic Management
Magic Management was a music management company that managed Canadian acts such as Jay Telfer, Truck, Christopher Kearney, Terry Dee and The Good Bros. during the 1970s. They also managed English group Hit & Run which was based in Toronto. They became involved with an exercise involving Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau to encourage young people to vote. They became one of the few music-related companies at the time who were able to incorporate management and creative requirements for their acts. Their subsidiary Slic Brothers was nominated three times for a Juno Award in the mid-1970s. Background Described as a group of companies, they operated on several fronts. Peter Foldy
Peter Foldy is a Hungarian-born recording artist, film producer, director and screenwriter. He has been nominated for two Juno Awards and has had multiple top-ten hits across Canada and the U.S., most notably with his first song "Bondi Junction" which reached number one on the Canadian charts. He has written and directed numerous feature films working with actors such as Paul Rudd, Eugene Levy and Academy Award winner, Louise Fletcher. Early life Peter Foldy was born in Budapest, Hungary but soon fled from the then Communist regime with his parents and sister. The family moved to Sydney, where Foldy attended high school and worked as an actor in television commercials. Moe Koffman
Morris "Moe" Koffman, Order of Canada, OC (28 December 1928 – 28 March 2001) was a Canadians, Canadian jazz saxophonist and flautist, as well as composer and arranger. During a career spanning from the 1950s to the 2000s, Koffman was one of Canada's most prolific musicians, working variously in clubs and sessions and releasing 30 albums. With his 1957 record ''Cool and Hot Sax'' on the New York-based Jubilee label, Koffman became one of the first Canadian jazz musicians to record a full-length album. The Stampeders
The Stampeders (sometimes shortened to Stampeders) are a Canadian rock trio consisting of lead guitarist and vocalist Rich Dodson, bassist Ronnie King and drummer Kim Berly. History Formed in Calgary, Alberta, in 1964 as the Rebounds. they had five members: Rich Dodson, Len Roemer, Brendan Lyttle, Kim Berly, and Race Holiday. They renamed themselves The Stampeders in 1965 and Len Roemer was replaced with Ronnie King and Van Louis. In 1966, they relocated to Toronto and became a trio in 1968 when Lyttle, Louis, and Holiday left. The Stampeders scored a hit in 1971 with "Sweet City Woman", which won Best Single at the Juno Awards, reached #1 on the RPM magazine charts, and #8 in the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. Jay Telfer
Jay Telfer (December 22, 1947 - May 20, 2009) was a Canadian singer/songwriter and guitarist. Early life Telfer grew up in Toronto and learned to play drums as a child. Career In the 1960s Telfer was the lead singer for the band A Passing Fancy. In 1968, as a solo musician, he released a single, ''Life, Love and the Pursuit of Happiness''. Telfer performed with the Steel River (band), Steel River band and wrote their song "Ten Pound Note" which was on the RPM Top 50 Canadian chart in July 1970. Telfer wrote the score for the film ''Away the Lines'', which featured Burl Ives. Telfer toured briefly with Lighthouse in 1974, and then toured in western Canada with Gary & Dave. The Good Brothers
The Good Brothers are a Canadian country, bluegrass and folk music group originating from Richmond Hill, Ontario. The band's core members are Brian Good (guitar), his twin brother Bruce Good (autoharp) and younger brother Larry Good (banjo). Brian and Bruce Good initially joined guitarist James Ackroyd to form the band James and the Good Brothers in 1967. Their self-titled album was released on Columbia Records in 1971. After a tour itinerary throughout North America, including a Toronto concert opening for Grand Funk Railroad, the Goods wished to return to Canada while Ackroyd sought to continue in the United States. Christopher Kearney
Christopher Kearney is a Canadian singer and songwriter who kicked off his career after military service. He had a hit in 1970 with "Theme for Jody". He had more chart success with the single "Loosen Up". Background Born in Toronto, Ontario, he was raised in the San Francisco Bay area. After military service in the Vietnam war, he returned to Toronto in the early 1970s. With some assistance from Gordon Lightfoot, his debut single was "A Theme for Jody", released in 1970. The follow up single was "Country Lady" in 1971. Having signed with Capitol and recorded three albums for the label, ''Christopher Kearney'', ''Pemmican Stash'' and ''Sweetwater''. Truck (Canadian Band)
Truck was a 1970s Canadian rock group with a musical style similar to Natural Gas and Lighthouse. Signed to the Capitol label, they released two singles and an album. The outfit started out as Sound Spectrum in 1966 and by the early 1970s they had absorbed experienced musicians from groups Natural Gas and Motherlode. Their name had also been changed to Truck! The 1970s lineup was completely different to what it was when the group began. A busy live attraction, they did reasonably well with their album ''Truck'' which had an unbroken run for about a month-and-a-half in the charts.
