Peter Hadland Davis
Peter Hadland Davis FLS, FRSE (18 June 1918 – 5 March 1992) was a British botanist. Life Davis was born on 18 June 1918 in Weston-super-Mare. Initially he was educated at the Nash House, Burnham-on-Sea and then continued his education at Bradfield College and later in Maiden Erlegh near Reading, Berkshire . In 1937 he began training at Ingwersen's Alpine Plant Nursery in East Grinstead and became interested in botany. In 1938 he began his first botanical expedition, albeit as an amateur on his own initiative. He visited the Middle East and Turkey, but had to break off his trip in 1939 at the beginning of World War II. He was called up into the army and served until 1945. The last two years of his time in the army he spent time in Cairo. Immediately after he was demobbed, Davis moved to Scotland to study botany at the University of Edinburgh. Peter George Davis
Lieutenant Colonel Peter George "Pug" Davis (9 December 1923 – 18 August 2011) was an officer in the Royal Marines. He was considered a 'founding father' of the Special Boat Service. Early life Davis was born in on 9 December 1923, the son of Solly Davis and Iris Davis (née Pinto). He attended Highgate School and enlisted in the Royal Marines in 1942. Career Second World War In mid-1944, Davis was based on the island of Vis in the Adriatic off the coast of the Former Yugoslavia (in present-day Croatia) as commander of a flotilla of Landing Craft (Assault) (LCAs). In June some of his reinforcements were ambushed in the mountains during a mission and only twelve men escaped to shore. Davis, who was on an LCA, took the chance to recover their weapons and rescue another officer who had been wounded. Peter Frank Davis (born January 2, 1937), is an American filmmaker, author, novelist and journalist. His film '' Hearts and Minds'', about American military action in Vietnam, won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 1974. Biography Davis was born in Santa Monica, and grew up in Upland and Pacific Palisades, CA. He has a younger sister, Jane Davis. His parents were the screenwriters Frank Davis and Tess Slesinger, and after his mother's death in 1945, Isabelle Fair Wrangell became his stepmother. Sir Peter John Davis (born 23 December 1941) is a British businessman, who was, from 2000 to 2004, the CEO of J Sainsbury plc, which operates the UK supermarket chain Sainsbury's. Davis was born in Cheshire on 23 December 1941, the son of John Stephen Davis and Adriaantje de Baat. He was educated at Shrewsbury School. Peter Byard Davis (born 25 April 1947) is a New Zealand sociologist, professor, and the husband of Helen Clark, who was the Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1999 to 2008. Early life Davis was born in Milford on Sea, Hampshire, England, on 25 April 1947, and spent his childhood in Tanzania, where his father worked for a mining company. His father was born in China and his mother in India, but a great-great-grandfather had grown up in New Zealand. Davis gained a master's degree in sociology and statistics at the London School of Economics. He moved to New Zealand in 1970 to work at the University of Canterbury and completed a PhD at the University of Auckland. He became a naturalised New Zealander in 1972. Peter A. Davis is an American theatre scholar. Education Peter Davis attended Bowdoin College, Stanford University and the University of Southern California, where he received an M.A. in Drama (Directing) in 1977. He earned his PhD in Communication-Drama, also from USC, in 1981. Research Davis researches early American theatre, Restoration theatre and Eighteenth Century cultural history. He is the author of ''From Androboros to the First Amendment: A History of America's First Play''. In his review, James Holsinger noted that the book helped to "resituate the early American canon" by taking closet dramas seriously. Peter Lovell Lovell-Davis, Baron Lovell-Davis (born Peter Lovell Davis; 8 July 1924 – 6 January 2001) was a British publishing executive and politician.
