Peter Crawford (Australian Politician)
Peter Thomson Crawford (born 1 July 1949) is a former Australian politician. He was the Labor member for Balmain in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1984 to 1988. Crawford was born in Ashfield in Sydney, and attended Burwood Public School, Fort Street Boys' High School and the University of Sydney, where he received his Bachelor of Arts and Diploma of Education. He became a school teacher and worked as a legal officer from 1973–75; he was also elected President of Young Labor in 1974. In 1976 he became a research officer for former Deputy Premier Jack Ferguson, before becoming a newspaper publisher in 1980. In that year he was elected to Leichhardt Council, serving until 1984. He briefly returned to teaching in 1983. In 1984, Crawford was preselected for the safe state Labor seat of Balmain, where the sitting MP Roger Degen retired. Jack Ferguson
Laurie John Ferguson (4 September 1924 – 17 September 2002) was an Australian politician and member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch). He served in Neville Wran's state government as the Deputy Premier of New South Wales from 1976 to 1984. Early life Born in the inner Sydney suburb of Zetland, Ferguson was educated at Granville Convent and Marist Brothers College, Parramatta, both Catholic schools. After leaving school he was variously a farmhand, textile worker, builder's labourer and bricklayer and was an organiser for the Building Workers' Industrial Union. From 1942 to 1946 he served in the Second Australian Imperial Force. Following his demobilisation, he became active in municipal, and then state, politics. The Liberal Party of Australia (New South Wales Division), commonly known as the New South Wales Liberals, is the state division of the Liberal Party of Australia in New South Wales. Roger Degen
Roger Charles Degen (born 1 May 1939) is a former Australian politician. He was the Labor member for Balmain in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1968 to 1984. Degen was born in Balmain to boatbuilder John Degen and Alice Quigley. He was educated at St Joseph's Christian Brothers High School in Rozelle before being apprenticed to the Railways Department building carriages and wagons. The Municipality of Leichhardt was a local government area in the inner-west region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is about west of the Sydney central business district. On 12 May 2016, Leichhardt merged with Marrickville Council and the Municipality of Ashfield to form the Inner West Council. The last mayor of the Leichhardt Municipal Council was Cr.
