Peter Cox (musician)
Peter John Cox (born 17 November 1955) is an English singer-songwriter, best known as the lead singer of the British pop duo Go West. As a solo artist, he scored three top 40 hits on the UK Singles Chart in the 1990s. Early career and Go West Peter John Cox sang in his school choir and later as a chorister at The Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace. In his early twenties, he worked in a covers band for The Mecca Organisation. In 1978, he joined Terra Nova, a band put together by former Manfred Mann's Earth Band members Chris Slade and Colin Pattenden; they released an album in 1980. While in residency in a Sheffield nightclub, Cox began writing with longtime collaborator Richard Drummie, with whom he eventually signed a publishing deal. In 1982, Cox and Drummie formed the band Go West, with Cox as lead singer and Drummie on guitar and backing vocals. Go West are an English pop duet (music), duo, formed in 1982 by lead vocalist Peter Cox (musician), Peter Cox and rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Richard Drummie. At the 1986 Brit Awards, they received the Brit Award for British Breakthrough Act. "Call Me" is a 1985 song by the British band Go West, which reached no. 12 in the UK Charts and no. 54 in the US. History On 7" vinyl, the album version of the song appeared, along with the B-side "Man in My Mirror", which later appeared on the remix album '' Bangs & Crashes''. The 12" vinyl included the extended mix (labelled "The Indiscriminate Mix") along with either the album version of "Call Me" and "Man in My Mirror" on the second side in Europe, or "We Close Our Eyes (Complete Underhang Mix)" in North America. A German 12" included "The Indiscriminate Mix" on the first side, and the album version and "The Indiscriminate -Kitchen Sink- Mix" on the second side. "Ain't Gonna Cry Again" is the debut solo single by English singer-songwriter Peter Cox, released in 1997 from his self-titled debut solo album. The song was written by Cox and Peter-John Vettese, and produced by Vettese. "Ain't Gonna Cry Again" reached number 37 on the UK Singles Chart and remained in the top 100 for two weeks. Background In a 2015 interview with ''Verily Victoria Vocalises'', Cox chose "Ain't Gonna Cry Again" as his "favourite song lyrically" out of all the songs he has written or co-written. He noted it was "very satisfying" that people, particularly women, "seem to identify with the theme of the song". Cox added of the song's success as a single, "It was played a lot on the radio and I got some decent support but it didn't transfer into sales." The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. ''Reborn in the USA'' is a British reality television show broadcast on ITV, in which ten British pop acts were transported to the US, where they were supposedly not known in the hope of revitalising their music career. Each week, the American audience voted for their favourite act. The two acts with the fewest votes would then face the vote from the British public, where the following week the act with the fewest votes was eliminated from the contest and sent back to Britain. Mark Shaw (born Mark Robert Tiplady on 10 June 1961 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England) is an English singer and songwriter who formed the 1980s rock band Then Jerico, which he continues to front. Their last studio album was 1998's ''Orgasmaphobia''. Music career After the original Then Jerico line-up split in early 1990, Shaw went solo releasing his only studio album, ''Almost'' for EMI in 1991. Then Jerico are an English rock band. They scored four top 40 hits in the UK during the 1980s. Career The band's early line-up included singer Mark Shaw, bassist Jasper Stainthorpe, drummer Steve Wren, and guitarist Scott Taylor. The band played at The Limelight Club in New York in 1983 and signed to London Records in 1984. The single "The Big Sweep" was recorded for London but they objected to the lyrical subject matter (an anti-Robert Maxwell/Rupert Murdoch statement). It was initially released by the track's producer Martin Rushent on his own Immaculate label in 1985 and later as a limited edition by London Records along with the new song, "Fault". The band's songs "Muscle Deep" and " The Motive" charted in 1987.
