Peter John Cook (born 15 December 1950) in Sydney, Australia is a retired Australian jockey. Some of his achievements include winning the 1981 and 1984 Melbourne Cups ( Just A Dash and Black Knight), the 1976 and 1982 Cox Plates (Surround and Kingston Town), the 1979 Doncaster Handicap ( Belmura Lad) and the 1988 Oakleigh Plate ( Snippets). Billy Cook (jockey)
William Henry Cook (12 January 191029 January 1985) was an Australian jockey. Career Billy earned the nickname "Last-Race Cookie" following his riding of the winner in the last race 13 Saturdays in succession in Sydney. He was also known as "The Champ", due to his exquisite riding skills. He won six Sydney jockeys' premierships during a distinguished career riding in Australia and overseas. Some of the achievements during his career included winning the 1941 and 1945 Melbourne Cups (Skipton and Rainbird), the 1930 Caulfield Cup (Amounis), the 1953 Sydney Cup (Carioca), and the 1954 CB Fisher Plate (Rising Fast). Perhaps his most famous victory was defeating Phar Lap on Mollison in the 1929 Chelmsford Stakes. Retirement He officially retired from riding in 1959. Doncaster Handicap
The Doncaster Mile, registered as the Doncaster Handicap is an Australian Turf Club Group One Thoroughbred handicap race for horses three years old and older, held over 1,600 metres at Royal Randwick Racecourse, Sydney, Australia. Although the race has traditionally been held on Easter Monday, the race is now run on the first day of the ATC Championships Carnival at Royal Randwick. Total prize money is A$3,000,000. History The inaugural running of the Doncaster Handicap in 1866. The 1892 running of the race attracted a record 30 starters. In 1930 the race was marred by a tragic fall furlongs from the winning post when one of the favourites fell and another was destroyed. Kingston Town (horse)
Kingston Town (31 August 1976 – March 1991) was a champion Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who won three Cox Plates and 11 other Group One races and was the 1980 Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year. Background He was by Bletchingly, later a Leading sire in Australia, his dam, Ada Hunter (GER) was by Andrea Mantegna (FR). Ada Hunter was the dam of nine foals, but Private Thoughts (a brother to Kingston Town) was her only other stakes winner. She was later exported to the United States. Kingston Town was bred by David Hains, who sold a share in him to G. Monsborough and his wife after the horse failed to reach his reserve as a yearling. Racing career He was trained throughout his career by Tommy Smith and ridden in 25 of his 30 wins by Malcolm Johnston.
