Peter Burns (architect)
Peter Bryant Burns (27 June 1924 – 2020) was an Australian architect and artist who practised from 1952 to 1989. He was known for his involvement in Contemporary Art Society exhibitions, his co-founding of the journal Architecture and Arts and his contributions to the Australian post-war Modern Art movement. Personal life Peter Burns was born in Geelong, Victoria on 27 June 1924. He began his architectural studies under the patronage of the Commonwealth Reconstruction Training Scheme, after serving in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as an aircrew trainee. From 1947 – 1953 he completed a Fellowship Diploma in architecture, first from the Melbourne Technical College (presently known as RMIT) and then the University of Melbourne. Burns died in 2020. Peter Burns (January 1870 - death date unknown) was a Negro leagues catcher for several years before the founding of the first Negro National League. Little is known about Burns at this time, but records show him on teams lists and in newspaper reports from 1890 to 1900. Peter Charles Burns (5 January 1866 – 11 October 1952) was an Australian rules footballer in the (then) Victorian Football Association (VFA) and Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of John Burns (1829-1897), and Martha Burns (1833-1914), née Harrison, Peter Charles Burns was born at Steiglitz, Victoria on 5 January 1866. One of his brothers, Allen Burns, played for South Melbourne in the VFL. Peter Burns married Elizabeth Corbett (1867-1951) in South Melbourne on 18 April 1889. Football Burns was a tall ruckman and full-back who made his debut in 1881, aged 16 years, with Ballarat Imperials before transferring to powerful VFA club South Melbourne in 1885.
