Peter Burling (sailor)
Peter Burling (born 1 January 1991) is a New Zealand sailor. He was the 2021 America's Cup winning skipper and helmsman, and the 2017 America's Cup winning helmsman of Team New Zealand, and won an Olympic gold medal in the 49er class at the 2016 games and silver medals in the 2012 and 2020 Olympics. Burling is a founder of Live Ocean - a registered New Zealand charity which supports and invests in promising marine science, innovation, technology and marine conservation projects. He was named as male World Sailor of the Year at the ISAF World Sailor of the Year Awards in 2017. He and his 49er partner Blair Tuke also won the award in 2015, and were finalists in 2014 and 2016. Burling was awarded the Magnus Olsson prize for 2020 "for an indelible contribution to the world of sailing." Tauranga () is a coastal city in the Bay of Plenty region and the fifth most populous city of New Zealand, with an urban population of , or roughly 3% of the national population. 2017–2018 Volvo Ocean Race
The 2017–18 Volvo Ocean Race was the 13th edition of the round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race. It started in Alicante, Spain, and concluded in The Hague, Netherlands. Welcome Bay
Welcome Bay is a suburb of Tauranga, New Zealand. It is located from central Tauranga. Neighbouring suburbs include Hairini and Maungatapu. There are a number of schools in Welcome Bay, including three primary schools. The name Welcome Bay has been used for the area as early as 1872 by the ''Bay of Plenty Times''. Tauranga Intermediate
Tauranga Intermediate is an Intermediate school situated in Tauranga, New Zealand. It is the largest in the country, with over 1,300 students in 45 classrooms. Houses Tauranga Intermediate, since the early days of the school, has had house groups which over the years have changed very much. * In the 1980s there were four houses: Matai, Tawa, Rimu and Kauri. * Sometime in the late 1990s two additional houses were created, these being Totara and Rata. * In 2006 3 new houses were created being Miro, Kahikatea and Tanekaha. * In 2009 A new house Manuka was created. SailGP
SailGP is an international sailing (sport), sailing competition using high performance F50 (catamaran), F50 Sailing hydrofoil, foiling catamarans, where teams compete across a season of multiple grands prix around the world. Its reigning champions are Tom Slingsby's Australia SailGP Team, who won their 2nd consecutive title in the 2021–22 SailGP championship. Background The competition was founded by Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle Corporation, Oracle and champion yachtsman Russell Coutts. Moth (dinghy)
The Moth is a small development class of sailing dinghy. Originally a small, fast home-built sailing boat designed to plane, since 2000 it has become an expensive and largely commercially-produced boat designed to hydroplane on foils though many are still built at home, typically at much lower cost. The pre-hydrofoil design Moths are still sailed and raced, but are far slower than their foiled counterparts. The International 420 Dinghy is a sailing dinghy popular for racing and teaching. The hull is fiberglass with internal buoyancy tanks. The 420 has a bermuda rig and an optional spinnaker and trapeze. Andrew Blair Tuke (born 25 July 1989) is a New Zealand sailor who won the 2021 Americas Cup Held in Auckland and also won the 2017 Version held in Bermuda.
