Peter Ali
Peter Ali (born 22 May 1956) is an Australian basketball player who played for the Adelaide 36ers in the National Basketball League (NBL). He competed in the men's tournament at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Biography Ali was born in Adelaide in 1956, playing his first game when he was six years old. He played his first match in the National Basketball League for the West Adelaide Bearcats in February 1979. In 1980, Ali was selected by the Australia men's national basketball team to take part in the men's basketball tournament at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Ali played for the Adelaide 36ers when they won the 1986 NBL season, when Adelaide put together the best season record in the history of the NBL. Ali's role for the team has been described as key to their title win. In the game that decided the season, Ali scored eleven points. McLaren Vale
McLaren Vale is a wine region in the Australian state of South Australia located in the Adelaide metropolitan area and centred on the town of McLaren Vale about south of the Adelaide city centre. Netball South Australia is the governing body for netball in South Australia. It is affiliated to Netball Australia. It is responsible for organizing and managing the Netball South Australia Premier League as well as numerous other leagues and competitions for junior and youth teams. The 1986 NBL season was the eighth season of competition since its establishment in 1979. A total of 14 teams contested the league. Clubs The NBL had 14 clubs spread across all Australian states and territories with the exception of the Northern Territory. Regular season The home and away season took place over 21 rounds between 25 April 1986 and 28 September 1986. The Adelaide 36ers had a near perfect regular season recording a 24–2 win–loss record which included an undefeated 13-0 home record at the Apollo Stadium, a feat not matched before or since in the NBL. Adelaide's only two losses of the year came away in Round 6 when they lost 89–87 to the West Sydney Westars in Sydney, and in Round 11 against the Coburg Giants in Melbourne when they went down 116–114. The Australian men's national basketball team, known as the Boomers after the slang term for a male kangaroo, represents Australia in international basketball competition. Since the late 1980s, Australia has been placed among the world elite teams as the Boomers have reached the semi-finals at both Summer Olympic Games and FIBA World Cup on many occasions.
