Pete Yoder
Peter Lampman Yoder (March 5, 1940 – January 30, 2006) was an American football coach. He served as a running backs coach at the University of Southern California (USC) under John McKay (American football), John McKay before accepting the head coaching position at California State University, Fullerton, where he compiled an 18–15 record in three seasons (1972–1974). He later coached at Esperanza High School in Anaheim, California, going 99–35–6 from 1979 to 1986. Yoder died of brain cancer on January 30, 2006, in Austin, Texas. 1974 Cal State Fullerton Titans Football Team
The 1974 Cal State Fullerton Titans football team represented California State University, Fullerton as a member of the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA) during the 1974 NCAA Division I football season. This was Cal State Fullerton's first year competing at the NCAA Division I level and as a member of the PCAA, but the Titans' games against conference opponents did not count in the conference standings until the 1975 season. They had previously been in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Led by third-year head coach Pete Yoder, Cal State Fullerton compiled an overall record 4–7. 1974 NCAA Division I Football Season
The 1974 NCAA Division I football season finished with two national champions. The Associated Press (AP) writers' poll ranked the University of Oklahoma, which was on probation and barred by the NCAA from postseason play, No. 1 at season's end. The United Press International (UPI) coaches' poll did not rank teams on probation, by unanimous agreement of the 25 member coaches' board. The UPI trophy went to the USC. During the 20th century, the NCAA had no playoff for the major college football teams, later known as "Division I-A". The NCAA Football Guide, however, did note an "unofficial national champion" based on the top ranked teams in the "wire service" (AP and UPI) polls. The "writers' poll" by Associated Press (AP) was the most popular, followed by the "coaches' poll" by United Press International) (UPI). Big West Conference
The Big West Conference (BWC) is an American collegiate athletic conference whose member institutions participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The conference was originally formed on July 1, 1969, as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA), and in 1988 was renamed the Big West Conference. The conference stopped sponsoring college football after the 2000 season. Among the conference's 11 member institutions, 10 are located in California (with 9 located in Southern California alone) and one is located in Hawaii.
