Pete Perry (activist)
Peter Perry was born in Washington, DC on October 31, 1969. He is a peace and social justice activist who has been affiliated with the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance and the Washington Peace Center. Perry helped organize one of the protests on the second inauguration of President George W. Bush on January 20, 2005 in Washington DC. On February 9, 2005 Perry and activists David Barrows and Midge Potts protested US torture and the nomination and confirmation hearings of Alberto Gonzalez for United States Attorney General. The demonstration occurred on the steps of The United States Supreme Court. The three were subsequently convicted in DC Superior Court June 30, 2005 for violating Title 40 sec. 6135 of US Code. National Campaign For Nonviolent Resistance
Founded in 2002, the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance (NCNR) is a network of individuals and organizations in the United States committed to ending the war in Iraq, using the nonviolent practices and disciplines of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. through nonviolent resistance. According to its Website, the coalition failed to prevent the start of the Iraq War in March 2003, but it continues "to engage in nonviolent direct action to end the war and the occupation. The group was founded as the Iraq Pledge of Resistance, and in expanding its focus, became the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance. Washington Peace Center
The Washington Peace Center was a nonprofit organization founded and located in Washington, D.C., focusing on peace and social justice. It officially closed ceased operating in 2020 after. The organization sought to provide education, support, and resources to activist groups. The Peace Center aimed to strategically link organizations to establish "structures and relationships that are nonviolent, non-hierarchical, humane and just." The organization traces its roots to a group of activists led by Quaker Larry Scott (Quaker), Larry Scott who began a vigil to protest the development of Biological agent, biological and chemical weapons at Fort Detrick in 1959. Midge Potts
Midgelle Regina Potts, known as Midge Potts, is a transgender peace activist and Navy veteran who ran as a Progressive Party ( Green Party) candidate in the 2010 Missouri Senate election. Biography Potts was born in on January 10, 1969 in Gainesville, Missouri. Potts served aboard the destroyer tender off the coast of Kuwait during the Gulf War. It was there that Potts was exposed to evaporated mercury in an engine room aboard the ship, and was offered an honorable discharge after failing to get treatment. She now lives off of Social Security disability benefits. After her discharge Potts reportedly married and had a child, before divorcing in 2003. After the divorce, Potts began living as a woman full-time, and while she began her transition by taking supplements to alter her body's hormones to be more female, she underwent conventional hormone therapy. Barbara Ann Mikulski ( ; born July 20, 1936) is an American politician and social worker who served as a United States senator from Maryland from 1987 to 2017. Eve Tetaz
Eve Leona Tetaz ( Birnbaum; September 6, 1931 – June 7, 2023) was an American public school teacher and peace and justice activist from Washington, D.C. She was arrested 11 times in 2007 for nonviolent civil resistance during protests against the war and occupation of Iraq. Tetaz was arrested approximately a dozen times between 2008 and early 2010. Tetaz was involved with several peace and justice groups, such as Code Pink, National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance and Witness Against Torture. Tetaz died on June 7, 2023, at the age of 91. Chelsea Elizabeth Manning (born Bradley Edward Manning; December 17, 1987) is an American activist and whistleblower. She is a former United States Army soldier who was convicted by court-martial in July 2013 of violations of the Espionage Act and other offenses, after disclosing to WikiLeaks nearly 750,000 classified, or unclassified but sensitive, military and diplomatic documents.
