Violin
The violin, sometimes known as a ''fiddle'', is a wooden chordophone (string instrument) in the violin family. Most violins have a hollow wooden body. It is the smallest and thus highest-pitched instrument (soprano) in the family in regular use. The violin typically has four strings (music), strings (some can have five-string violin, five), usually tuned in perfect fifths with notes G3, D4, A4, E5, and is most commonly played by drawing a bow (music), bow across its strings. It can also be played by plucking the strings with the fingers (pizzicato) and, in specialized cases, by striking the strings with the wooden side of the bow (col legno). Violins are important instruments in a wide variety of musical genres. They are most prominent in the Western classical music, Western classical tradition, both in ensembles (from chamber music to orchestras) and as solo instruments. Violins are also important in many varieties of folk music, including country music, bluegrass music, and ...

At Sixes And Sevens
"At sixes and sevens" is an English idiom used to describe a condition of confusion or disarray. History Origin and early history It is not known for certain, but the most likely origin of the phrase is the dice game " hazard", a more complicated version of the modern game of craps. Michael Quinion, a British etymologist, writing on his website on linguistics, says, "It is thought that the expression was originally ''to set on cinque and sice'' (from the French numerals for five and six). These were apparently the most risky numbers to shoot for ('to set on') and anyone who tried for them was considered careless or confused." A similar phrase, "to set the world on six and seven", is used by Geoffrey Chaucer in his ''Troilus and Criseyde''. It dates from the mid-1380s and seems from its context to mean "to hazard the world" or "to risk one's life". William Shakespeare uses a similar phrase in '' Richard II'' (around 1595), "But time will not permit: all is uneven, And every th ...

Sketch Of Supposed Murderer
Morgul is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band formed in Råde in 1991. History In 1991 Morgul soon recorded two demo-tapes: Vargvinter and In Gowns Flowing Wide, which were spread through the underground. Eventually this managed to garner them a deal with Napalm Records. The band at this time consisted solely of Hex, on drums and main-man Jack D. Ripper on guitars, bass, keyboard and vocals. Together they released two albums: ''Lost In Shadows Grey'' and ''Parody Of The Mass''. ''Parody Of The Mass'' being recorded at Abyss Studios in Sweden by Mikael Hedlund from Hypocrisy, especially created interest for Morgul within the underground and soon the media mentioned them to be the hidden treasure within the black metal scene. In 1999 Morgul signed to Century Media Records and started working on new material and came up with a more varied and personal sound. This album also marked a change in producer and studio. Every album including and following ''The Horror Grandeur'' was pr ...

Beyond The Veil (album)
''Beyond the Veil'' is the second full-length album by the Norwegian band Tristania. It is the last album to feature the band's former vocalist, guitarist and core songwriter, Morten Veland. Background and influence Tristania stood apart from the other bands of the genre with their use of three distinct vocal styles in the "operatic soprano Vibeke Stene, clean-singing counter-tenor Østen Bergøy, and harsh, black metal-style shrieker Morten Veland". ''Beyond the Veil'' made use of a ten-member choir and featured violin passages from Pete Johansen of The Sins of Thy Beloved, earning "rave reviews" across Europe. By then, the band had risen to "the top of the gothic metal heap" with their "lush, symphonically enhanced" approach. The album features "tender ethereal female voices" and "the brutality and harshness", making it a promoter on the gothic metal scene. They were "dealt a potentially crippling blow" when singer, guitarist and principal composer Veland left the group to ...

Gothic Metal
Gothic metal (or goth metal) is a fusion genre combining the aggression of heavy metal with the dark atmospheres of gothic rock. The music of gothic metal is diverse with bands known to adopt the gothic approach to different styles of heavy metal music. The genre originated during the early 1990s in the United Kingdom originally as an outgrowth of death-doom, a fusion of death metal and doom metal. Lyrics are generally dark and introspective with inspiration from gothic fiction as well as personal experiences. Pioneers of gothic metal include Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Anathema, all from the north of England. Other pioneers from the first half of the 1990s include Type O Negative from the United States, Lake of Tears, Tiamat and Katatonia from Sweden, and the Gathering from the Netherlands. Norwegian band Theatre of Tragedy developed the "beauty and the beast" aesthetic of combining aggressive male vocals with clean female vocals, a contrast that had been adopted by ...
